MAURICE E. RISK, or sHAMaocK, TEXAS.
HAME-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 4,' 1916.
Application led July 2, 1915; Serial No. 37,787.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, MAURICE E. RISK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shamrock, in the county of Wheeler and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hame-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hame fasteners, and it has for its object to produce a simple and effective device for securing a pair of hames on a harness collar.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and improved device of the class described whereby the hames may be secured tightly or loosely, as may be required.
A further object of the invention is to produce a hame fastener embodying a length of chain and a retaining hook or clip, the latter being formed, by bending, of a single piece of wire.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafterv fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing,-Figure 1 is a plan view of the hook member detached. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is aside view showing the hook member connected with a hame, only a portion of the latter being shown. Fig. 4; is a perspective view showing the hook member and the chain connected therewith. Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the lower portion of the collar and a pair of hames, the latter being secured on the collar by the improved fastener.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.
The hook member A of the improved fas tening device'is formed of a single piece of wire by first bending the same to form a U- shaped yoke, the limbs of which 15, 16 are of unequal length, `said limbs being subsequently bent or doubled downwardly intermediate their ends to oii'set the bridge portion 17 of the yoke downwardly and forwardly in a plane below the plane of the limbs 15, 16. The shorter limb 15 is bent to form a terminal eye 18 with which a chain 19 is connected; the longer limb is bent to form a hook 20 which is oii'set laterally and outwardly with respect to the limb 16.
In practice, the downwardly and forwardly oifset po-rtion 21 of the device, which includes the bridge piece 17is engaged with the loop 22 at the lower end of one of the hames B where it mayk be permanently retained byfurther bending the rodset portion 21 to tightly engage the loop 22. When the hames are applied to the collar, the chain 19 is passed through the loop 22 of the hame member B, and after drawingv the chainl suiiiciently tight it is engaged with the hook 2O of the fastening member A, as best seen in Fig. 5 of the drawing, therebyk effecting a very strong and secure connection between the hames. It is obvious that by drawing the chain 19 more or less tight, the hames may be secured loosely or tightly, as desired.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. In a hame fastener, a fastening member consisting of a U-shaped yoke having a bridge portion and limbs of unequal length, a short limb having a terminal eye and the long limb having a terminal hook which is oli'set laterally and outwardly with respect to the yoke, that portion of the yoke which in- .cludes the bridge portion being bent and offset downwardly in the direction of the ends of the limbs having the eye and the hook.
2. In a hame fastener, a fasteningmember consisting of a U-shaped yoke having a bridge portion and limbs of unequal length, the short limb having a terminal eye and the long limb having a terminal hook which is offset laterally and outwardly with respectV to the yoke, that portion of the yoke which includes the bridge portion being bent and offset downwardly in the direction of the In testimony whereof I ax my signature ends of the limbs having the eye and the in presence of two witnesses.
hook, in Combination with a chain permas r nently engaged with the eye at the end of MAURCE E' Rbh' one limb of the yoke and adapted to be de- Nitnessesz taohably engaged with the hook at the end E. K. CAPERTON,
of the other limb. W. N. CURLEE.
