IMPROVEMENT IN POULTRV FOUNTAINS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,807, dated August 8, 1871.
.enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of my improved drinking-fountain. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, partly in section, through the line a" a, Fig. 1.

My invention consists in a drinking-vessel for young chickens, constructed as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
A is the upper part of the fountain, which is made air and water-tight, and may be made of glass, metal, or other suitable material. The mouth of the part A is so formed as to fit into a socket, b1, formed upon the middle part of the top of the lower part B of the fountain, and from which socket a hole, b2, is formed through the said top. In the top ofthe lower part B around the socket b1 is formed a number, series, or circle of holes, b3, of such a size that the fowls can drink freely, but cannot get into them to wet their bodies. The part B is made circular in form, and with vertical sides, and is made of such a height that the fowls can conveniently drink out of the holes b3.
In using the fountain the parts A and B are both filled with water separately. The upper part A is then inverted and its mouth or neck is inserted in the socket b1 of the part B. Bythis construction the part B will be kept full, so that the fowls can drink freely as long as there is any water in the part A.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The covered water-vessel B for young chickens, having one or more apertures, b3, through which they may drink without wetting themselves, as described.
2. The drinking-Vessel B b2 b3, provided with perpendicular neck b1, as and for the purpose specified.
