ABRAHAM 1V1. ZIMMERS, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
WATER-HEATING APPLIANCE FOR GAS-STOVES AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, rate.
Application filed May 25, 1915. Serial No. 30,332.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM M. ZIM- MERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in W'atenHeating Appliances for Gas-Stoves and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to domestic water heaters which are heated by a gas burner, and its object is to provide a water heater in the nature of an attachment to an ordinary gas-stove, a heating coil being provided which is so associated with the burner that it does not interfere with the use of the stove for cooking purposes.
The invention also has for its object to provide an attachment of the kind stated which can be readily applied to any ordinary gas-stove, no changes in the structure of the stove, or the burners thereof, being necessary.
The above stated objects are attained by means of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a plan View of a fragment of a gas-stove showing the application of the invention thereto, the utensil-supporting grates above the burners being removed; Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on the line 2-2 of Fig. on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the top of a gas-stove of ordinary construction having the usual burners 6, with gratings 7 above the latter on which the cooking utensils are supported.
Between the burners 6 and the gratings 7 are mounted water-heating coils 8 which are connected in series, and have an inlet connection 9, and an outlet connection 10 to a tank or other suitable reservoir (not shown). The inlet connection has a cleanout valve 11, and the outlet connection has a faucet 12 located adjacent to one end of the stove so that a supply of hot water may be conveniently drawn.
Each coil 8 is horizontally positioned above the burner, and the inlet is at the center by a vertical pipe extending upward through a central opening in the bodv of the burner as shown at the center of Fig. 3 of the drawing The outlet is at the outer end of the convolutions of the coil.
1, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged section The drawing shows two burners 6, each provided. with a water-heating coil 8, but it will be understood that the number of coils may be varied as desired, and according to the number of burners the stove has.
The convolutions of the coils 8 are spaced sufiiciently to allow the flames of the burn ers to pass therebetween, and as the coils are located beneath the gratings 7, there is nothing to interfere with the use of the stove for ordinary cooking purposes.
Each coil 8 is supported above the burner by a spider composed of radialarms 1% connected by a series of spaced, concentric rings 15, and an outer ring 16 connecting the outer ends of the arms. The outer one of the series of rings 15 has an outstanding arm 17 which seats on top of the inlet neck 18 of the burner, and is fastened thereto by a clamp 19. The rings 15 seat on top of the burner, as shown in Fig. 3, and their spacing is such that they do not obstruct the burner orifices. The arms 14: have top recesses 20 which form seats for the convolutions of the coil. The rings 15 rise a suitable distance from the burner, and as the supporting arms 14 of the coil are at the top of the rings, the coil is spaced from the burner. The outer one of the series of rings 15 has a bottom flange 21 which is curved to fit the side of the burner as shown in Fig. 2.
The arrangement of the coils, and the supporting means therefor enable the attachment to be readily applied to any ordinary gas-stove without changing or modifymg the structure of the stove or the burners thereof. The attachment is also simple and inexpensive, and it can be easily installed.
I claim:
1. The combination with a gas-stove burner; of a spider mounted on the burner, and a water-heating coil supported on the spider above the burner, said spider comprising radial arms having top seats for the convolutions of the coil, and spaced concentric rings connecting the arms, and means for attaching the spider to the burner.
2. The combination with a gas-stove burner; of a water-heating coil mounted above the burner, and a support'for the coil, said support comprising a series of concentric rings seating on top of the burner and spaced apart, radial arms connecting the rings at the top thereof, said arms havcoil, said Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressingthe Washington, D. C.
burner; of a Water heating coil mounted above the burner, a series of spaced, concentric rings'mounted on top of the burner clear of the orifices thereof, attaching means for the rings, and seats for the convolutions of the coil carried by the rings, said seats being spaced from the burner.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two itnesses.
