To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ABRAM J. DU B019, and FRANK J. STEEN, citizens of the United States, residin at Walden, in the county of Orange and tate of New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising-Bags; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Our invention relates to improvements in advertising bags and has for its object to provide a novel, durable and economical bag as hereinafter described.

The important feature of our invention is to provide an advertising bag so durable and economical to manufacture, that it may be given to each purchaser of articles in a mercantile establishment for the purpose of carrying purchased articles. The advertisg matter may be placed upon the bag in a y suitable manner.

To enable others. to fully understand and to practise our invention, we will explain the same in detail, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which;

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bag. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

In the drawings A is the body of the bag which is made up of any suitable material,

and has its meeting edges joined at one side of the bag, as shown at a, and has secured to its upper ortion by an adhesive substance, a rein orcing piece (1'. preferably of the same material as that used in the construction of the bag body. This reinforcing piece is folded over the top and extends downward on the inside and outside of the bag for any desired distance. It will be seen that the reinforcing piece extends entirely around the top of the bag and is joined at 12, thereby providing reinforcement at the side creases at the top of the bag, as

well as at the sides.

Handles B, B of any suitable material are secured to the top of the bag by means of rivets C, C. The rivets first pass through the handles, then through the reinforced top of the bag and are bent over on the inside to secure the same, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings.

It is intended, in making up this bag, to have the joined portions 7) of the reinforcing piece on the opposite side of the bag from that on which the edges of the latter are joined together, by means of which a more durable structure is obtained, than in bags of a similar character heretofore used.

What We claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An advertising bag comprising a body portion having its meeting edges joined at one side of the bag and provided at its top with a reinforcing piece of suitable fabric, said piece having its ends overlapped and being pasted to the inside and outside of the top of said bag, and extending entirely around the same and the ends of said strip being joined together on the side opposite to that on which the sides of the bag proper are joined, and handles secured to said reinforcing piece and to the body portion by means of rivets.
