Description

PATENT OFFICE.
URIAH T. W'IIISON, OF INDEPENDENCE, MISSISSIPPI.
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,027, dated July l1, 1871.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, URIAII T. WiLsoN, of Independence, in the county of De Soto and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Cotton-Presses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being` had to the annexed drawing making a part of this speciiication, and to the letters and ligures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a top View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same.
My invention has relation to cotton-presses; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices whereby an immense power may be applied to the lever. This is an improvement on the cotton-press patented by P. Villia-ms, January 2l, 1868.
A of the drawing` designates the press-box. B represents the follower' and rod, pivoted, by the staple c, to the short arin ofthe lever D. E represents the fulcrum, bolted securely under the platformbeani F by means ofthe key g or other suitable device. H represents the lifting-arm.
The upper end of this arm is pivoted to the end of the long arm of the lever, and its lower end is provided with a roller or wheel, k, which is adapted to run in a channel, lZ, made in the upper surface of the beam F. 'Ihe circumference of the wheel is grooved to receive the rope m, one end of which is attached to a windlass and the other end secured to the beam F. Power being` applied to this windlass, the arm H will gradually assume an upright position, causing the follower B to be depressed in the box A with great force.
I claim- In a cotton-press, the combination, with the follower B, lever D, and channeled beam F, ofthe lifting-arm H provided with the roller 7c, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
URIAH T. WILSON.
