Description

u. c. BRIGGS.-
CLIP FOR METALLIC WINDOW SASHES. APPLICATION FILED APR-24, I913- 1 1 M331, Patented Dec. 14, 1915.
COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH co.,wl\sH|NuToN. D. c.
DELAMAB C. BRIGGS, GE DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR T0 DETROIT STEEL PRODUCTS COMPANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
CLIP FOR METALLIC WINDOW-SASHES.
Application filed. April 24, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DELAMAR C. Bnrces, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of WVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clips for Metallic "Window-Sashes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
In the construction of metallic window sashes, it is usual to form the sash bars of metallic bars having T-heads the latter being usually molded or fashioned to produce an "ornamental appearance. For certain constructions it is necessary to secure to these sash bars transversely-extending metallic bars, and the present invention relates to a clip construction forming a simple and convenient means of securing said transverse bars.
In the drawings: Figure l is a section through one ofthe bars of a metallic window sash showing a transverse bar secured thereto by my improved clip; Fig. 2 is an elevation at right angles to Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a similar view showing a modified con struction; and Fig. 4c is a perspective view of a portion of the T-bar showing the manner of aperturing the same for the reception of the clip.
A is one of the division bars of a metallic window sash, which, as shown, is provided with a molded head B.
(J are the glass panes which are secured to the bar A, being seated against the under face of the head thereof.
D is the transversely-extending bar to be secured to the bar A.
My improved securing means comprises a clip E which is engaged with the portion of the bar A outside of the plane of the glass by passing through a transverse aperture F formed therein. This clip is preferably Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1%, i915.
Serial No. 763,367.
of U-form, while the aperture F is of a size to permit the turning of the clip therein, into the position shown in Fig. l. The parallel legs of the U engage correspondingly positioned apertures in the flange of the bar D, and clamping nuts G- engaging threaded end portions of said legs serve to clamp the bars D and A firmly together.
If desired, the molded head B of the bar A may be mortised for the reception of the bar D, as shown in Fig. 3.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a metallic window, the combination with a metallic sash bar having seats for the glass thereon and a bar extending transversely to said first-mentioned bar on the outer side thereof, of a Ushaped clip engageable with a transverse aperture in the portion of said sash bar outside the plane of the glass, the parallel legs of said clip being engageable with correspondingly positioned apertures in said transverse bar, and clamping nuts on the engaging threaded end portions of said parallel legs for securing said bars to each other.
2. In a metallic window, the combination with a metallic sash bar having seats for the glass thereon, a bar extending transversely with said first mentioned bar on the outer side thereof, of a U-shaped clip engageable with a transverse aperture in the portion of said sash bar outside of the plane of the glass, the legs of said U-shaped clip being engageable with said transverse bar and means engaging the legs for securing said bars to each other.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DELAMAR O. BRIGGS.
