To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Jns'rrn O. GenLUP, acitizen of the United States, resldm at J anesville, in the county of Rock and tate of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Foldable Arm- Cha1rs, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to chairs, and more particularly to the class of foldable arm chairs, settees or the like furniture.

The primary object of the invention 1s the provision of a chair, settee, orthe like. of this character wherein the same can be readily and easily folded into compact form when not in use, and when unfolded for use will be firm and rigid without the possibility of the accidental folding thereof.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a chair, settee, or the like, wherein the construction thereof in form to assure the quick and easy folding and unfolding of the same.

A further object of ,the invention is the provision of a chair of this character which is simple in construction, strong, durable, reliable and efiicient in its purpose, and 1nexpensive in manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the chair comprises a seat section 10, back section 11, arms 12,..and the respective front and rear legs 13 and 14, the seat section being'provided at opposite side edges with rails 15 which are fixed to the under face thereof, and passed through these rails are the pivot bolts 16 and 17 respectively, which are also passed through the legs 13 and 14 for swingingly connecting the same to the seat section, the bolts 17 being adjustably fitted with winged nuts 18 which are de- 1s novel signed to fasten the hack section 11 in position.

Fixed to the upper ends of the rear legs 14 are angularly disposed bearing blocks 24 which when the chair is being unfolded come in contact with and at right angles to the braces hereinafter described, and thereby stops further unfolding movement of the chair. These blocks 24 serve as supports to the legs 14 and the back 11 of the chair. From the foregoing description, taken in drawings, the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extende explanation has been omitted.

\Vhat is claimed is 1. A foldable chair comprising a seat section, a back section, arms pivotally connected' to the back section, legs, pivots connecting the legs to the seat section and also connecting the back section to sa1d seat section, braces pivoted to the rearmost legs and also connected at the pivot points between the foremost legs and the arms, the

said back section being formed with slots receiving the pivots connecting it to the seat section to permit limited displacement thereof, the said back section being formed with grooves spaced from the said slots, and locking pins engaged in the rearmost legs and movable through the grooves to engage the back section on displacing the same to lock the chair unfolded.
