COMBINED TABLE AND TRONING-BOARD.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS BARON, a resident of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Combined Tables and Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ironing machines, and its principal object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, strong, conveniently operated, reliable, and improved table and ironing board, whereof the table is at an elevation suitable for various ordinary purposes, and the ironing board of which may be raised to an elevation suitable for ironing and may be lowered or restored in inoperative state. Y

Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a general front elevation of the table and ironing board, showing the latter extended and elevated in position for ironing. Fig. 2 is a front elevation showing the ironing board lowered and restored to inoperative state. Fig. 3 is a sectional end elevation of the table and ironing board, taken on the line 00w of Fig. 1.

The table comprises a table-top 1 joined to a supporting framework 2 which is mounted upon legs 3. Underneath the table-top 1 and transversely thereto are located two bars 4 which are disposed parallel to each other. Each of said bars has a portion 5 bent rightangularly thereto and at its extremity 6 is pivotally connected to an ironing board 7. Said bars are mounted in guides in which they may be turned about their axes and through which they may be also slid longitudinally in a direction to ward and away from the front 9 of the table. The ironing board 7 comprises a central portion 7, to which the bar-portions 5 are directly pivoted, and at the extremities of said central portion are connected boardportions 7 by means of hinges 10, whereby the end-portions 7 of the ironing board are adapted to be swung upwardly about hinges 10, in the direction of the arrows, and to be folded over to lie on top of the central portion 7 When in inoperative state the end-portions 7 of the ironing board 7 are folded over upon the central portion 7 thereof, Fig. 2 and said board is in this folded state retained underneath the'folded table-top 1 Specification ofLetters Patent.

and inside the table-frame whereinto it has been slid, together with its supporting bars 4. In this position the folded ironing board rests upon a ledge 11 of an opening 12 provided in table-frame 2, and the bar-portions 5 are disposed approximately horizontally, as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2. When it is desired to utilizethe ironing board 7 it is first withdrawn from concealed position underneath the table-top 1 and its end-portions 7 are unfolded about their hinges 10, and then the board is raised above the table-top 1, to an elevation suitable for ironing, by swinging it together with the bar-portions 5 a quarter turn in a clockwise direction about their guiding hinges 8. The board thus rising in parallelism with the table-top 1 is disposed parallel thereto and horizontally when in elevated position and its supporting bar-portions 5 are disposed in vertical position. Locking bars 13, hinged to the corners of the tabletop 1 at 14c and having slotted extremities 15, may be then swung upwardly about their hinges and their slots caused to engage pins 16 secured tothe rear edge of the board 7, whereby the ironing board is firmly locked and maintained in elevated state, and the ironing therewith may be thereupon proceeded with conveniently.

In order to restore the ironing board to its inoperative state and dispose it out of the way, it merely requires unlocking of the bars 13, folding up of the board-portions 7 and then swinging of the board with its supporting bar-portions 5 in an anticlockwise direction to aline it with the opening 12 and sliding it inwardly underneath the table-top 1 in concealed state. A stopping projection 17 at the extremity of each bar 4 abutting against the rear guide 8 limits the outward longitudinal movement of the bars 4 and the outward extension of the board 7, while abutment of said projection against the rear bar 18 of frame 2 limits the inward movement of bars 4 and the inward sliding of the board 7.

The table-top 1 may be that of a sewing table or any other table for domestic purposes. As here shown the table-top is at an elevation suitable for dining or doing useful work about a kitchen or similar place, and the board 7 is elevated above the top of the table to an elevation which is most convenient for doing ironing work. While the ironing board is being utilized the table-top may be conveniently used for placing garments and goods to be ironed thereupon, and also in other Ways in conjunction with the ironing. Underneath the folded board 7 and Within the table-frame 2 is built in an ice-box 18, and adjacent said box are built in a bread box 19, a drawer 20 for kitchen articles, and a sliding board 2l Which may be Withdrawn and extended so as to be used for chopping articles of food thereupon.

Having thus described my invention, I 1aim;-

l. The combination of a table, an ironing board adaptable to slide thereunder and to be extended outwardly therefrom, and means to elevate said board to an ironing elevation above said table.

2. The combination of a fixed table, an ironing board, said board adaptable to be folded up, 'means to slide said board in folded state under and to extend it out- Wardly from said table in lateral directions, and means to elevate said board to an ironing elevation above said table.
