To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANZ A. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag- Fasteners, of which the following is a. full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make, construct, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon, forming a part ofv this specification.

This invention relates to certain improvements in fasteners, and particularly to fasteners for satchels, bags, pocket-books, and the like, and has for its object, the arrangement of an improved structure designed to co-act with the ordinary fastener of a satchel for preventing an accidental loosening or unfastening of the same.

A further object of the invention is to provide a pivotally mounted auxiliary looking device in connection with a bag frame having the ordinary lift-lock or overlapping locking knobs, so that the auxiliary locking device may embrace the ordinary fastener for preventing opening thereof.

In its preferred embodiment, my improved device includes a pivoted member carried by one of the jaws, which when swung in one direction, will positively prevent the lock from opening, but when swung in the opposite direction, will permit the free opening of the ordinary fastener.

In carrying out my invention, I make use of the preferred structures illustratedin the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 and 2 respectively represent a plan and a side elevation of my invention; and Fig. 3 represents a transverse section taken on line w-x of Fig. 2, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow, the liftlock not being shown in said view.

Similar numerals of reference refer to like parts throughout the specification and drawlugs.

In the form illustrated, my'invention is applied to any ordinary or desired form of frame, consisting of two hinged members 1 and 2. Near the middle portion of the frame member 1, I secure a fastener 3 of the liftlock type, in any convenient or desired manner, which is operatively connected with the frame member 2 by snapping .or forcing the edge of the fastener over the usual projection (not shown) upon the frame member 2, in the well-known manner. Instead of employing a lift-lock of the type herein illustrated, locking knobs which interlock and which are well-known in the art, may be employed. v v i I H represent apertured studs, of any convenient form, secured to the frame mem ber lby means of an integral reduced portion 5 formed onthe under side and near the rear end of said studs, which are inserted through apertures in the bag frame member 1 and riveted over in any suitable or convenient manner.

The stud 4c in its preferred form, is of such slze as to project across the top of the frame member 2, when the frame members are in their closed or locked position, and the front end thereof is preferably provided with an integrally formed inwardly projecting nose or locking element 6, projecting across the path of the pivotally connected locking element 7, and designed to be engaged therewith when said locking element is swung into or out of locking engagement with said locking element 6.

The stud l in its preferred form, at its front end, where it overhangs the frame member 2, is provided with a reduced portion, as clearly indicated at 8 on the drawings, and the noseor locking element 6 is preferably tapered or rounded off at that point where it engages with the sides of the locking element 7, so that when the locking element is sprung past the nose or looking projection 6, it is done with a pronounced snap.

The locking element 7 is pivotally connected to the apertured studs 4 by means of integral trunnions 9 formed thereon. This locking element is made from a single piece of suitable material, formed with two arms 10, from which the trunnions 9 extend, and by means of which it is pivotally connected to the studs 4. These arms 10 are provided with offset portions 11, whch lie snugly embodiment shown, but may be modified in the scope of the following claims.

I claim:

1. In combination, two members movable relatively to each other, a fastener secured to one of said frame members and holding said frame members together, studs secured on one frame member, and a locking element, comprising a yoke pivotally located in said studs, said yoke being designed to have looking engagement wit-h said studs and operated independently from said fastener.

2. In combination, two members movable relatively to each other, a fastener secured to one of said frame members and holding said frame members together, studs provided with holding means secured to the said frame member and projecting across the other frame member, and alocking element, comprising a yoke pivotally located in said said holding means and operated independently from said fastener.
