- A 'ITOR/VEY WITNESSES:

EDWIN F. GUTH, on ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI,
' s1. LoUIs, MISSOURI, A
ASSIGNOR T0 LUMINOUS UNIT COMPANY, OF CORPORATION OF MISSOURI. I
LIGHTING-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom'it may concern.-
Be it known that I, citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and ilseful Lighting-Fixture, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to' the accompanying specification.
My invention relates to lighting fixtures and, particularly, to an improved construction of the portion thereof which is adjacent and attached to walls, ceilings, or other and forms a support for the remainder of the fixture; 7
Among the objects of my invention are to provide afixture construction by means of' which the fixture wiring may be conv'eniently inserted and connected to the sup ply conductors, to avoid the use of a slip stem for the canopy inclosing the connections, and, at the same time, provide means whereby the canopy may be readily positioned against the walls or ceiling whether the junction box or wire conduit terminates in line with their surface, or. as is frequently the case, terminates ,back of or SltlOIlGCl agamst wall or ceiling surfaces re-i projects beyond this surface.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a vertical-cros sectional view; Fig. 2 is a plan'of what termed the main fixture supporting member or saddle.
1 represents a junction box provided with the usual threaded stud 2 and ears 3. By way of illustration'of the applicability of my improved fixture construction to such a condition, the box is shown as pro ecting somewhat beyond the ceiling. line 4.
5 represents the main fixture supporting frame or saddle which is provided at its upper end with projections 6 having elongated slots 7. By means of screws passing through these slots and the ears of the EDWIN F. GUTH, a
drawings, forming part of this and with a shoulder 11.
is hereinafter junction box, the frame may be securely p Patented Oct. 5, 1915. Application filed March 13, 1915. Serial No. 14,113. I 1 i will be understood that the attaching means i most convenient in a particular situation may beused.
The saddle "=5 shown, and is provided at its lower end with a threaded opening 9 for the reception of the end of a ing member 10 which may carry ahook or other device for supporting the remainder" of the fixture, or a lamp socket may be directly attached thereto. The member 10 is preferably about two inches in length and is provided with an opening through the center for the passage of electric wires,
provided with an openin through which the member 10 passes an is supported on the shoulder 11.
The member 10 terminates a substantial distance below the lower end of the junction box and convenient space is provided for the insertion of and connection of the wiring. It will be understood that by simply turning the member 10, the canopy may be elevated or lowered with relation to the frame 5 and, therefore, may be readily pogardless of the position of the junction box with reference to these surfaces. Moreover, under all conditions, the shoulder of the member 10 is always adjacent to the canopy which results in a ance than if this shoulder were two or three inches below the canopy as is usually the case when the common form of slip stem of prior constructions. is employed.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as'new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent of the United States is:
The combination of a junction box, a fixture supporting frame suitably attached thereto and provided with a threaded opening in itslower portion. a canopy inclosing the frame, a hollow stem forming a wire second fixture support-,
The canopy 12 is better external appear 55 projects downward, as
conduit extending through the canopy and having a. threaded end extending into the opening in the frame, said stem being also provided with a fixed shoulder for sup- 5 porting the canopy. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal in the presence of the two subscribing Witnesses.
