Description

Dec. 25, 1923.
C. J. DREES LIGHTING FIXTURE Filed Aug. 18 1920 INVENTOR CLEMEN J. DREES ATTORNEY UNITED-STA CLEMENS J'. DREES, 0F LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, ASSIGNOR TO ST. LOUIS BRASS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION 0F MIS- SOURI.
LIGHTING FIXTURE.
Application led August 18, 1920Y To all 'whom t may camera.'
Be it known that I, CLE-MENS J'. DREES, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of Little Rock, State of Arkansas, have invented a certain new and useful Lighting Fixture of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact de scription as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. i
My invention relates to an electric xture and more particularly to that type of fixture in which an electrical device is suspended a short distance below the ceiling.
The object of my invention is to provide the fixture with an arm carried by, and preferably formed integral with, the cover of the outlet box; which arm will support and enclose a control wire. The control wire is thus carried beyond the refiector so as to be accessible from the floor.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates one form of lightin fixture in accordance with m invention, ig. 1 is a side view partly in e evation and partly in section. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the outer end of the arm for supporting the control Wire. Fi 3 is an enlarged section taken on t e line 3-3 of Fig. 4, and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the combined outlet box cover and supporting arm.
5 indicates a ceiling in which the outlet box 6 is set in the usual manner. The outlet box 6 is provided with a supporting pipe 7 carrying the reflector 8 and bowl enclosing the light blub 10.
The outlet box 6 is provided with inwardly projecting lugs 11 carrying screws 12. The heads of the screws 12 are adapted to engage with key-hole slots 13 formed in the flange of the outlet box cover 14 so as to removably secure Said cover in position on the box. The cover 14 is provided with a central aperture l5a for the passage of the supporting pipe 7. Formed integral with the outlet box cover 14 is a channelled arm 15 projecting laterally beyond the reflector 8. This arm 15 is open at its upper side and Serial No. 404,395.
this upper side is adapted to bear against the ceiling 5.
16 is a controlling wire Which'is enclosed within the tubular arm 15. The arm 15 is provided in its under face, adjacent to its outer end, with a threaded aperture 17. The outer end of arm 15 is open as indicated at 18 and is provided with a downwardly curved lip 19. When it is desired to use the fixture in connection with a pull switch 20, the said pull switch is threaded into the aperture 17 as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
In case it is desired to use the fixture in connection with a switch 21 of the push button type, the control wire 16 is carried out through the open end 18 and down around the curved lip 19 and attached to the switch as shown in Fig. 2 of the draw- It will be evident that my invention comprises a simple` rigid and effective construction, whereby the control wire is carried beyond the electrical device without the necessity of any support on the ceiling separate from the outlet box.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In an electric fixture, the combination with an outlet box, of a cover for said box, and an arm carried by said cover and extending laterally therefrom for the support of a control wire.
2. In an electric xture, the combination with an outlet box, of a cover for said box, and a channelled arm carried by said cover and extending laterally therefrom for the reception of a control wire.
3. In an electric fixture, the combination with an outlet box, of a cover for said box,
and an open top channelled arm carried by said cover and extending laterally therefrom with its top in contact with the ceiling, said arm serving as a conduit for the reception of a control wire.
4. In an electric fixture, the combination with an outlet box, of a cover for said box, and a channelled arm extending laterally therefrom for the reception of a control TES PATEFNI" i Wire` said arm being 'pvidedgnpn "icption of a Control Wire, ing in its under face for the reception of a provided with an opening in its under face switch. for the receptiun of a. switch and having its 1 5.
