Description

ToaZZ lwhom. it may concern UNiTED-rsrnrn PATEN'r, onrior.; vnnnonnoirnnorrgr "j 'l Be-it known that I,- VERNON Borna, -a l citizen of the United States, and resident of `Paterson, in the county of Passaic' and State of New J ersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tubing-Machines,
-of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to a tubing machine 'and more particularly to atmachine forsimultaneously producing a plurality of tubes h'aVingtheir-walls extpriorly connected. j
The object lis, to rovide for firmly sup- I porti-ng a gang or p urality of vcores in close* relation to one another, leaving a thin space ybetween 'their exterior adjacent walls and -so locating them within a die that the plastic material'may be caused to iiow around l .1 the several core members without serious hindrance.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an .end View of the machine, Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the core, die, feed screw, in the plane of the line A-A. Fig. v1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same in the plane ofthe line B-B,
Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a transverse section in the plane of the The feed screw cylinder is denoted by 1;
its jacket by 2, the feed screw by 3, the die holder by L1, the die by5 and the tubular nut for holding the die in position by 6.
Between` the end of the cylinder l and the die, a vcore bridge `7 is held, and'into-the-web `8 of this core bridge, agang ofcores 9 vare secured, their free ends extending to 'the outer end of thedi'e 5. A second core bridge 10 is superposed on the core bridge 7, by
`means of posts 11, extending outwardly from the bridge 7 into 'which posts screws 12 are tapped and extend through the mar-A gin of the bridge 10. A' gan of cores 13 I is secured in the bridge 10 an project outsans ,alternate with the core members of the gangr 13, in such manner as to brlng the outer ward to the oute'rend of the d1e 5, terminating in the plane of the outer ends of the 9. 'The core meinbers'of the gang -9 ends .of the two gangs in the desired relation to one another to produce the honeytheir supports and a portion of the medication-gfLaersforatem. Patatedisept-e,1915.. Appuaum lea--Nvembr 27, i912. seal. no. 733,825.`
combstrpcture de sired. l The inner ends of v the several core membersare here shown j reduced in'size and passed through holes in the Webs of thev bridgesand secured therein -by meansl of nuts' 14:, screwed on their threaded inner ends. AThis arrange mentpermits a iiow of plastic material first.
ported without unduly obstructing the {iow of the plastic material.V The particularf grouping of the core members' in the present illustration is suited to the manufacture of a honeycomb pneumatic tube lsection for tires. A V-shaped opening is made along the inner side ofthe tire section. by locating a tapered projection 15 at the mouth of the die, as shown in-Fi'g.- 1. This opening is serviceable in applylng the tire casing with this tube section therein to a wheel 'The cross sectional free ends of the core members are held in 'shapel of the core members 1s here shown hexagonal, and the :the desired relation to onev another against any tendency to springtoward or away from one another under pressure :of the plastic material by spacingpins 16, seeFig. l5, 'set in their walls and located in a plane a 'shortdistance back from their free endsa distance suliic'ient to permit the plastic material to unite after passing the pins before leaving the discharge end of the die.
The structure hereinabove described is not limited in its use to the manufacture of pneumatic tubes forv tires, but may be used as well to manufacture multi-perforated tubes in general'LWhatever may be the particular grouping of the-'core members.
