Description

J. BRELL.
SNAP BUTTON.
APPLICATION FILED Aue.25. 191 4.

JULIUS J. BRELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SNAP-BUTTON.
Application filed August 25 1914. Serial No. 858,439.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JULIUS J. BRELL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Snap-Buttons, of which the follow ing is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a device of this class, which may be readily attached to any article or fabric by means of stitches, and which will hold securely when in use. This and other objectsare accomplished by my invention, one embodiment of which is hereinafter more particularly set forth.
For a more particular description of my invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming "a part hereof, in which 7 Figure 1 is a plan view of the female member. Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views taken on the lines 2-2, and 33, respectively of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 4 is a sectional View taken on the line H of Fig. 3, looking in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the male member. Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken on the 1ine77 of Fig. 6 looking in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 8 is a transverse section of the complete button sewn to a fabric. Fig. 9 is a plan view of the male member sewn to a fabric.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
My improved button 1, is composed of a female member 2, and a male member 3, each of which is secured to a tape 4, or other suitable fabric, by means of suitable threads 5. These threads pass not; only through the eyes 6, found in each member, but also through intermediate recesses 7, which are also found, with the result that each member can be more neatly and securely held than is possible where the threads are confined to eyes only, as the threads overlap the edges.
The female member 2, comprises a disk Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. "8, 19 15..
portion 8, in which the eyes 6 are located, and this disk portion has a downwardly extending flange 9, which is bent inwardly to form the recesses 7, as above set forth, this flange being at the outer edge, and adapted to rest on the article or fabric to .Whichthe member is attached. The center of the disk has a downwardly-extending depression 10, which is adapted to receive the corresponding part of the male member, and this depression is suitably recessed at 1 1 to receive the wire spring 12, which may be made of any suitable shape, but is preferably made as shown in Fig. 1; that is, with its ends and center loop resting within the flange 9, and its intermediate loops extending through therecesses 11, so that one of said intermediate loops is opposed to the other, whereby the projecting part orhead 13 of the male member 3 is engaged at diametrically opposite points and so held by spring pressure well within the socket 10. The head 13 of'the member 3 rises from a suitable disk 14, provided with a stiffening flange 15, about its edge, which is bent so as to normally rest against the fabric or other. article, to which the fastener is secured.
When in use the members of my improved fastener are sprung together or separated in the conventional manner, and secured to a fabric as above described.
\Vhile I show and describe one embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that it is not restricted thereto, but is broad enough to cover all structures that come within the scope of the annexed claim.
Having thus described my invention, what- I claim is In a device of the class described, a fastener having a flange extending about its edge, said flange being bent inwardly at intervals to form thread receiving recesses and a series of eyelets in said fastener adjacent the flange.
Signed at the city, county and State of New York this 21st day of August 1914.
JULIUS J. BRELL.
