' Applicationfeied November-2551914:- seriarivasfasvo."
To all whomvz't may ,concern v Be it known thatwe, FRANK WoJTKowsiii and DOMINIK RADzIsZEwsKI, subjects of the Czar of Russiapresidin'g at Chrome, Ain the county of Middlesex and. State of New Jersey, have invented certain newrand useful Improvementsin :Padlocks,of which the following is a specification.
improvements in .padlocks v he ,primary object of this invention is tol providea portable lock inthe nature of-a padlock and which requires two keys for the complete release. of the ylocking lmember or hasp.
A further object is to provide a two key padlock operable` onlyupon manipulation of each of theeither of theke s. r.
A still further Objectis to provide a padlock having two ymanipulating keys, one of the keys being adapted in the unlockingl operation to :retract a boltwhile the other shifts the keeper butin the locking4 operation the rst named vbolt engaging` key is solely employed for both projecting the bolt and reshifting the'keeper to its locked position.
With these .general objects in view -andothers .that will appear as the nature of the invention is better l understood, the same' consistsin the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafterv fully ldescribed, lillustrated .in the accompanying drawings and pointedout claims. f
In the drawings `forming. apart-of this'- application ,and in which like designating characters referto lcorresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure ll-is a side elevation of the device.- -F ig. 2 is an endelevation thereon Figr is a transverse sectional view.. takenvupon -line IIIIII of Fig. 5.- Fig. 4 is a central'lon gitudinal sectional vview ytaken .through the device with the elements in their locked-positions. 'Onejendf with a single .ward' 37 may then be iri'sert'efl-v shelf and'is in 'ng'gageniliti -ward 37` inserted through the transyerse'per- `foration 38 of the lbolt which ehtersthe, notch 32 yand' whereby the said"w`ar'd will 'end 'of the 'spring' 28 )and "disengage the same from the notch32, there"- contact cthe free by allowing a retracting omovement of the bolt by an outward impulse .exerted upon the said key 11 and in which manner as will be apparent the bolt will be entirely disengaged from the securing hasp.
A partition 39 is provided in the casing at a point between the shelf 26 and the bottom wall 40 of the case, the said partition being positioned parallel to both the said shelf and wall and is provided with a central longitudinal slot 41 therethrough. A keeper 42 mounted upon an operating plate 43 is slidably positioned within the casing with the said plate 43 slidably mounted in opposite ways 44 carried by the partition 39 and having the said keeper 42 extending through the end slot 45 of the .partition 39. T he keeper is provided with a socket perforation 46 through its upper portion and the said perforation is at all times in alinementl with the bolt end 33 while a transverse notch 47 of the keeper is at all .times in alinement with the lower angular end 48 of the hasp when the hasp is positioned with its free end within the casing and with its lug 36 engaging the top plate thereof.
Two pins 49 are slidably positioned within yokes 50 carried by the partition 39 and spanning the slot 41 thereof in such a manner that the said pins normallyrest of `their own weight upon the upper surface of the keeper operating plate 43 and extending f non as unarmed in. rig. 1. The pme 43 through the said slot while the operating plate is provided with two spaced transverse perforations 5 1 adapted to receive the said pins 49 when the keeper is in its locked posiis provided with 'a similar third perforation 52 farther removed from the keeper 42 than the perforations 51 and the saidperforation 52 is adapted to receive o'ne of the pins 49 when the keeper is in its unlocked position and flatly engaging the inner face of the end wall 53 of the casing as illustrated in Fig.l 2.
When therelements are in their unlocked position as illustrated in Fig. 2 and with the hasp inserted within the casing ready to be locked therein, the key. 11 may be inserted through the key opening 14 and the ward 37 of the key pressed against the pin 49 which Lis within the plate perforations 52 and the y said pin being 'thereby forced out of* the said opening, the key 11 may be moved outwardly of the casing and drawing the operating plate as well as the keeper longitudinally of the casing and so as to engage the keeper notch 47 with the hasp end 48 in its locked position and at which time the two pins 49 will both drop into the plate perforations 51 upon removing the said key 11. The key 11 will then be inserted through the key-hole opening 13 and upon engaging the ward 37 with the perforation 38 of the bolt 25, the key may be `pushed inwardly, thus sliding the bolt 45 longitudinally and projecting the locking end 33 thereof through the hasp perforation 34 and the keeper socket perforation 46, while upon removing the key 11 the free end of the spring 284 will drop into the notch 32 of the bolt and prevent a return movement of the bolt moved from the lock. the notches 31 and 32 are inclined for affording abutments 54 at their forward ends and sloping rearwardly for allowing the spring 28 to readily ride upon the bolt during its .projecting movement. l When desired to unlock. the elements, the
. two'keys are employed by inserting the key.
11 through the opening 13 and disengaging the spring 28 from thel notch 32 by means of are slidably moved out of engagement withv the keeper to the `unlocked position as shown in Fig. 5 and with one ofthe pins 49 engaging within the perforation 52 for retaining when the key is relt will be noted that f the keeper and plate in its unlocked position until again actuated by the key 11 as hereinbefore set forth.
The manner of locking and unlocking the hasp from the casing mechanism having been described, it will be understood that the hasp and the chain 17 are together employed for encircling the desired elements after the l manner of the swinging hasp or yoke of the ordinary padlock or -in other words, when the hasp is entirely removed fromthe casing, the chain may be passed around such members as bars or through staples or rings Aand when the hasp .is in locked engagement such elements with the casing mechanism, will be firmly secured together.
While the forms vof the invention herein shown and described are whatare believed tobe preferable embodiments thereof, itl is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made in the form, propori tion and details of construction without vde parting from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
