HAIR COLORING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 9, 1914.

JOHN NDRTH, 0F 'TOIJEDQ, DH-IO.
HAIR-COLORING DEVICE.
Speciflcattomcfvlr ttol ii n Application filed February 9, 1914. Serial No. 817,576.
To atl whom it may concern Be it known that 1,. JOHN NORTH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Hair-Coloring Device; and I do here by declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,' such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it 'appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to hair vices.
It particularly relates to a means for causing the hair to become dark in color.
The invention may be contained in toilet articles such as combs or brushes. It may be contained in combs having a single row or a plurality of rows of teeth.
The hair, particularly the pigment, contains a considerable quantity of sulfur. Under suitable conditions it may be combined with lead to form lead sulfid which will darken the color of the hair. By my invencoloring de tion a means is provided vfor supplying lead which will unite with the sulfur of the pigment.
The invention may be contained in many forms of devices all of which come within the purview of my claims hereinafter appended. To show the practicability of the devices embodying my invention, I have selected one of such devices as an example and shall describe it hereinafter. The device selected is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. l
Figure l of the drawings illustrates a side view, partly in section, of a comb e dyand Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate two of the modifications of the manner in which the teeth may be made or connected'to the back or body of the comb.
1, Fig. 1, is the handle of the comb. 2 is the bac of the comb. The teethi3 of the comb are secured to the back 2. ,Eacht Jtl'l comprises a metallic rod 4', which reinforces the tooth and tube of lead 5 which sur- 7 rounds each rod 4 and is secured in the back .points coming in contact with at its upper end by clamping or socketing the lead tube 5 into the back around the rod 4. The rod 4 may be provided with a head 6 to prevent longitudinal movement of Patented Feb. e, 1915.
the rod 4 with respect to the back 2. The
upper end of the tube 5 may be flanged and socketed with the head into the back edge of the back as shown in Fig. 1. A channeled strip 7 is secured to the upper edge of the back 2 which may look the pins 4 into the back 2 by closing over the heads of the pins 4. The strip 7 is secured to the back 2 by means of rivets 8. The strip 7 also gives the back edge an attractive appearance as it covers the heads of the rods 4.
Rubber or fiber points 10 may be'placed upon the ends of the rods 4 to prevent contact of the lead tubes with the scalp when the comb is in use. On the other'hand the pins 4 may extend down'through the lead tubes and remain I uncovered.- their lower ends may be rounded. The steel the scalp will prevent the scalp coming in contact with the lead and thus prevent any injurious efiects which might otherwise occur by reason of the contact of the lead with the head.
The manner in which the rods 4 and'the tubes .5 are secured-\to' the back 2 may be varied. Two "of such modifications are shown in. Figs. 3 and 4. In Fig. 3 the lead tube 5 is socketed in the back 2 and held in position in the socket and on the pin-4 by thefiber thimble or point. In Fig. 4 the lead, tube'is' socketed in the back 2 and the pin 4 extends through the back 2 and into a channel '15. The channel 15 may be filled with a suitable solder or cement which will lock the pin 4 in position. The channeled strip 7 may then be placed of the back 2.
The device selected and described may be greatly varied in the arrangement and conof elements having equivalent functions and on the back edge If desired such modifications may still contain the invention which is described in the claims in the language of the elements shown.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
1. A toilet device havin lead teeth reinforcing rods) extending t rough the lead teeth and forming points extending without the lead for, preventing the lead from In testimony whereof, I have hereunto coming in contact with the scalp. signedmy name to this specification in the 2. A toilet device having lead teeth, represence of two subscribing witnesses. inforcing rods extending through the lead JOHN NORTH. 5 teeth and thimbles covering the ends of the Witnesses:
said rods for preventing the lead from I F. E. AUL, coming in contact with the scalp. R. G.
