Description
GEORGEW. JASON, OF LODI,
Letters Patent No. 112,463, dated March 7, .1871.
IMPRov'EMEN-r 1N PlTMEN.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all rwhom 'it 'may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. J AsoN, yof Lodi, in the county of Medina and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pitman-Head for Reapers; and do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of Vreference marked thereon making apart of this specification.
The nature of my invention `consists in the construction and arrangement of a pitman-head for reapers, mowers, 85o., as will-.be hereinafter fully set forth.
In orden to enable others skilled in the art to' which my invention appertainsto make and use the same, I will now Vproceed .toA describe its construction and op- EIOU, referring t0 the annexed drawing, which represents a longitudinal vertical section of the end of the pitman with one-half of the head. y l
My pitman-head is made in halves, A, of malleable iron, brass, or any other suitable material.
Each half is provided with a groove, deep. enough, so that, when the halves `are put together, the pitman-rod'Bwill becompletely inolosed as far Ydown as-.the head extends.
Atthe inner ends of theV grooves in the head are formed enlargements, for the reception of the head or circular projection b on the inner end of the Jpitman, thereby preventing the same from pulling ont of the head, but at the same time allowing the pitman to turn freely.
The upper end of each half of the pitman-head is enlarged and provided withI a circular hole, through which, when the head is put together, is passed a pipe-box, O.
The halves are put together and fastened by screws or rivets, and a nut, D, ou the lower end.
a is the opening for oiling the crank or' wrist-pin, which ypasses through the pipe-box C.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, vand desire to secure by Letv The combination of the-bisected head Awith pipebox' C, oil-cup a, nut D, and the pitman B, with its solid circular projection b, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
-In testimony that I claim `the foregoing I have hGEi'Yeuni'o4 set my hand this 7thi day of December, 1
GEORGE W. JASON.
