To all whom it may concern Application filed April 22,
and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gran ment-Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to theac This invention relatesto new and useful improvements in garment hangers and more particularly to a device which isadapted to be applied to the back of a theater chair or seats or chairs of a similar character, the main object of the invention being the provision of a garment supporting device which "can be readily applied to the back of a theater chair, whereby outer garmentsmay be readilysuspended therefrom, thus eliminating the inconvenience of having. to hold them or having to place them in the chair which is occupied. i I
Another object of the present inventionis the provision of a device of the above character which will possess advantagesin points of efliciency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and, at the same time, is simple in construction and operation.
W iththe above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrange- I ment of parts as willbe hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a hanger constructed in accordance with my invention, illustrating the application'of the same. Fig. 2 is an elevation illustrating the manner of suspending the supporting arm. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the hanger, takenon the line '33, Fig.
1. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view takenion the line ,44, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 isa sideelevation of the showing illustrated in Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a detail front elevation illustrating a slightly modified form of the device; and Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken on the line 77, Fig. 6. i
In carrying out my invention, I provide two supporting plates which are indicated by the numerals 1 and 1', said plates being of substantially similar design and provided with screw openings 2, whereby they may be readily secured to the back of the seat and arranged in spaced relation, as indi- Speeiiication of Letters Patent.
G mMENT-HANGER.
1914. Serial No. 833,752.
cated in Fig. 1. Each of the supporting plates are provided upon the outer face thereof with the spacedbearings Band separated by the longitudinal slot 4. Suspended from the supporting plate 1, is a movable arm 5, the upper end of which is provided withoutwardly projecting alined lugsv 6 adapted to be arranged within the bearings 3, while the arm 5 projects out through the slot 4. From this itwillbe-apparent that the arm 5 is pivotally connected to the plate 15 and may be swung outwardly in any desired angle. After the upper end of the arm.
has been disposed within the slot 4, the up; per edges of the material forming the slot is preferably bent inwardly to revent accidental removal of the upper en of the arm.
The outer end of the arm 5 is bifurcated to form two spaced perforated ears 7, be-
tween which isarranged the perforated end of the supporting arm 8. It will be noted that one of the ears 7 project beyond the end of the opposite ear and terminates into a point which, afterthe arm 8 has been arranged between the ears is bent upon itself and extends transverselv across the bifurcation in the lower end of the arm 5, so as to present a smooth and unbroken surface, whereby the clothing will not catch upon either of the ears 7 and also to prevent any accidental removal of the end of the arm 8 from between the ears. end of the arm 8 is securely held in position between the ears 7 by means of the transverse pin 9 which is preferably in the form of a rivet, as disclosed in Fig. 3. The other end of the arm 8 is provided with an enlarged head 10 which, when the arm is suspended withinthe supporting hook 11,
v is adapted to prevent longitudinal movement of the bar. The hook 11 is formed upon the lower end of a supporting rod 12, the upper end of which is provided with the outwardly projecting alined lugs 13 adaptedto be arranged within the bearings 3 formed upon the plate 1. From this it will be apparent that when the bar 8 is suspended from the arm 5 and the rod 12, the same may be readily swung outwardly so that the garments may be engaged thereover.
In Fig. 6, I have illustrated a slightly modified form of means for pivotallv mounting the arm 5 and the rod 12. In this form of the invention, perforated spaced ears 14 are formed upon the outer face of the plates and the upper ends of the arms 5 and 12 Patented Dec. 1, 1914. I
The perforated are provided with circular portions 15which are adapted to be arranged between the ears 14 and pivotally secured in position by means of the transverse pins 16.
It will be apparent from the above that the operation of my improved garment hanger is as follows :When it is desired to suspend a garment of any character therefrom, the head or end of the bar 8 is removed from the hanger 13 and the arm 5 swung outwardly, carrying the bar 8 with it, so that any form of garment may be read- .ily engaged over the bar. "The bar is then swung inwardly over the seat and the end will be readily apparent that I have pro vided a simple and durable garment hanger which canbe quickly and readily ap lied to the back of theater chairs and the like or readil removed therefrom, It will also be apparent that any form of garment may be readily mounted upon the, hanger or removed therefrom. The device, as herein shown and described, is extremely simple construction and can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a comparatively low cost. a
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes'in the details of said plates, a supporting'bar having one end pivotally connected to the lower end of the arm, a second arm pivotally connected with the plate on the opposite side', a hook suspended from the second 'supp'orting arm and adapted to receive the other end of the supporting bar, as and for the urpose set forth;
In testimony 'whereofI hereunto use signature in the lpmsenceof two witnesses.
