To all whom it may concern:
do it known that I, \Vnsnnr SMITH, a
citizen of the United States, residingat East Sparta, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pattern Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a pattern device and one that is used for the particular pu rpose of fitting a door or other object within a frame or openin The main object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind that can be adjusted within the frame or opening to the proper size of the door or object to be fitted therein, together with means whereby the device will serve as a attern which may afterward be traced or 1 escribed upon the material from which the door or object is constructed; or which pattern may be used to obtain the various measurements for the door or object when the same is constructed of a number of strips or parts.
Another object of the invention is to provide in connection with the device, means whereby thenccossary clearance for the do r or other object provided for.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction that comprises a plurality of hinged sections which enable the device to be folded into compact form when not in use.
Various other and minor objects are accomplished by the device of my invention which will appear from the description following taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein the preferred embodiment is shown.
In said drawings:Figu1-o 1 is a front elevation illustrating the device as used in connection with a door-frame; Fig. 2 is an edge view; Fig. 3 is an end View; Fig. 4.- is a sectional view on the line 4l4t of Fig. 1; and Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.

Referring specifically to the drawings, in rder to show the application of my invention, a door-frame 1 is illustrated. In the opening of said frame the device embodying my invention, is shown. This device comprises a plurality of relatively adjustable sections which will be referred to generally Specification of Letters Patent.

The main section A comprises essentially, a side rail 2, a central rail 3, and transverse bars or rails 4. These rails are rigidly fastened together by suitable bolts, screws or the like as at The rails 2 and 3 are preferably made of a plurality of sections, and the sections of each rail hinged together as at 6. Rails l, beyond one side of the rail 3, are provided. with elongated slots 7.
Side section B comprises a side rail 8 which is preferably made of a plurality of sections hinged together as at 9. Rigidly fastened to the rail 8 as by means of bolts or screws 10, are a plurality of transverse bars 11 adapted to engage against one face of the bars 4. The section 13 is adjustable relativoly to the section A and may be fastened in an adjusted position by means of bolts 12 extending through the bars 11 and through the slots 7, and beyond the same receiving. nuts such as winged nuts 13.
The end section comprises an end rail 14 and longitudinal rails 15 and 16. The longitudinal rails 15 and 16 are rigidly fastened to the rail 14 as by means of screws 17. The rail It; has rigidly fastened thereto, a transverse rail 18 having one face abutting against the face of rail 14. Rails 16 and 18 collectively may be termed a corner section. In rail 1 1- is provided an elongated slot 19 through which extends a bolt carried by rail 18, which bolt receives a nut, such as a winged nut 20, beyond the rail. Side rail 8 is provided with an elongated slot 21, and rail .16 has extendin therethrough a bolt, which also extends tlrough said elongated slot 21, and beyond the same receives a nut such as a winged nut 22.
To the edges of the side and end bars are fastened suitable projecting members 23, to prevent the edges of the frame coming in direct contact with the door-frame, thereby slightly distancing the same and providing for the necessary clearance of the door or object to be fitted.
The bars 11, 15, 16 and 18 may be surrounded by straps 24 bent into U-shape and having their ends fastened to the bars above the same, and relatively to which said mentinned bars slide. These straps, as is obvious, guide the several bars in their movement and maintain the same in operative relation relative to the frame.
While the device is not in use, the same may be folded into compact form by swinging the various parts upon the hinges at: 6 and 9 as stated. When being used, the various nuts are loosened and thereupon the sections are slid or extended relative to each other, which action is permitted by means of the elongated slot and bolt connections between the various rails. Upon the parts being extended to the proper positions, the nuts are tightened so that the frame can be removed and serve as a pattern from which to construct the door or other object. It is clear that the end section and side section are adjusted separately relatively to the main section A.

be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims, such changes are hereby reserved.
