VIEENGH.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER A. Mnnrznn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrenches, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a wrench which may be used for the various uses for which a wrench is employed, but it is especially designed for use with my improved lock bolt and nut, which is described and claimed in my application for United States patent filed December 10, 1913, Serial No. 805,670. Referring to said application, it will be noted that in a general way the invention comprises a bolt having one or more sides flatted, or having a keyway, and upon which a washer is placed, so that it is non-revoluble on the bolt; one surface of said washer being corrugated; while upon this washer is placed a locking washer provided with springpawls which engage the corrugations on the first washer, and hold the same against rotation in a backward direction as the locking washer is secured to the nut. To release the locking washer it is necessary to raise the spring pawls from engagement with the cor rugations on the washer, and at the same time back off the nut from the bolt; and to accomplish this in a sure and quick manner, I have devised the wrench which is the subject of this invention, and which I will now proceed to describe in detail.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 18, 1914.

Patented A11 25, 1914-.
Serial No. 839,193.
Referring to the drawings :Figure 1, is a side elevation of my wrench as applied to the nut and bolt lock. Fig. 2, is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3, is a side elevation of a modified form of wrench. Fig. 4:, is Fig. 5, is a side elevation of a similar device, which may be employed when the nut is in close quarters and not sufficient room allowed for the use of the wrench.
In the drawings, the nut is designated by the numeral 1; the corrugated washer by 2; the locking washer by 3; the spring pawl by 1, and the corrugations by 19, and the bolt by 5.
As shown by Fig. 1, the wrench comprises a body portion or handle 6, which is provided at one end with a nut engaging portion grooved out as at 7 to engage the nut 1, and rest upon the upper surfaces thereof. Depending from the lower surfaces of said end and integral therewith are two curved arms 8, which have their ends tapered as at 9, to engage the tits on the spring pawls 4, in such a manner that when pressure is exerted on the wrench, the portion 7 acts as a lever, and the arms 8, raise the pawls 4, out of engagement with the corrugations 19; while at the same time the nut may be turned by the wrench.
The modification shown in Figs. 3, and 2, only differs from the above construction in that the pawl lifting arms '13, are part of the bifurcated ends of a finger lever 12, which is pivoted at 1 1, upon the lever 10, and by pressing the levers 10, and 12, together, the pawls are released.
The modification shown in Fig. 5, comprises a yoke 17 having depending arms 15, and pawl engaging hooks 16, while a wedge 18, is driven between the yoke 17, and the head. of the bolt 5, thus raising the pawls.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A wrench of the class described having a bifurcated end adapted to engage the top and sides of the nut, and curved arms depending therefrom and adapted to engage the nut locking means and release the same.
2. In combination with a nut locking device comprising two washers, one being corrugated and the other provided With pawls In testimony whereof I aflix my signaengaglng the same, of a Wrench havlng an -ture 1n presence f two Witnesses.
end portion adapted to en a e the face and sides of the nut and a dipznding portion OLIVER MENTZER' adapted to engage the pawls and raise the Witnesses:
