To aZZwhom it may concern- Be it known that I, STEPIIEUGN Honviiiru, a citizen of the United States, residing at Racine in the county ofltacinc and State of /Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful. I1i'i r'oveinents in Spring-Heel Construction, of which the following is a specification.

A further object is to provide a resilient hob nailstructure having adjustable springtensioning devices and being of simple construction easily applied to a shoe well as disassembled.
A still further object is to provide a shoe heel constructed with a plurality of hob nail. carrying; sockets and having tension regulated spring-prcssed nail members removably mounted in said sockets.
With these general objects in view and others that will. appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrange ment of parts hereinafter fully described illustrated. in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shoe employing the present hob nail construction, portion of the heel being broken away. Fig. 2 is a ver tical longitudinal central view taken through the heel portion of a shoe and substantially upon line 2-2 of Fig. 3, and, Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the shoe heel.
Referring more in detail to the drawings,

For mounting the present structure firmly to the shoe, the heel portion 12 of the shoe sole is provided with a heel block 13 firmly affixed thereto and having a carrying plate 14: cured to the lower face thereof. able therefor, is provided with a plurality of bores 16 or transverse sockets bored therethrough and each adapted for the reception of a spring; nail. of the form hereinafter described. A screw 17 is centrally positioned within each bore and is screwed through both the plate 14: and firmly into the heel block 13, and thereby seats an annular disk 18 within the bore and firmly against the inner face of the plate 1 1, a screwdriver being engageable with the screw from the open mouth of the bore and by means of the transverse kerf 19 of the screw. A helical spring 20 encircles the screw 17 and is secured to the outer face of the disk 18 before the insertion of the latter within the here. The hob nail. which is employed has a domeshaped contacting face 21 and a disk-shaped base while extending from the latter is a threading tube 23 and by means of which the disk 22 is screwed upon the free outer end of the helical spring 20, and thereby maintains the disk and head in a resilient sliding position within the bore and normally with the head 21 entirely projected therefrom.
From the above detailed description of the manner of assembling the present spring hob nail heel structure. the entire operation of the device will be clear. lVith the elements assembled as illustrated. any pressure exerted upon the projected heads 21 as in the act of walking. allows the heads to resiliently slidr. 'iwardly and in effect produces not only a spring calk for the heel but also a resilient spring mounting for the heel portion of the shoe. the separate cusl'iioninn members being: advantageous in traveling over a rough i|.'o.-id-bed. The tension of the springs 20 upon the nail head or calks may be regulated by turning the heads 581 in wardly or outwardly upon said springs as may be desired.
l Vhile the forms of the invention herein shown and described are what are believed to be preferable embodiments thereof, it nevertheless to be understood that various forms and modifications thereof may be had without departing .lrom the spirit and scope of the invention. as claimed.

In a combination with a shoe having a and an intermediate plate secured to said block, said heel member provided with socket bores opening at the tread portion of the heel member, disks seated Within said bores, screws centrally positioned in said bores and extending through said disks and engaging said plate and heel block, helical springs encir cling said screws and secured to said disks, and head members mounted upon the free ends of said springs and normally partially projected from the open ends of said bores.

A heel structure comprising a block sei cured to a shoe and having plurality of inWardly-extending open sockets extended therethrough, disks Within said sockets, securing screws extending through said disk and engaging the shoe, helical springs encircling said screws and secured to said disks, head disks slidably-mounted Within the outer ends of said bores, threaded collars inwardly carried by said head disks and adjustahly receiving the free ends of said springs, and dome-shaped heads carried by said head disks and normally projected exteriorly of said bores and extending from the tread surface of the heel.
