Description

APPLIOATION FILED DBO. a, 1913.

S TA'NISLAW ZERAIQTSKI, OF WARSAW, RUSSIA.
Specification of Letters Patent,
Patented July 7, 1914.
Application filed December 3, 1913, Serial No. 804,523.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, STANIsLAw ZERAnsKI, subject of the Emperor of Russia, residing at Warsaw, Russia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coffins, of
which the following is a specification, reference being hadtherein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to cofiins or burial cases, has especial reference to that class of cases constructed to admit of reviewinga body when the burial case is closed and This invention is directed to facilitate the repairing of the lamps or electrical device in said case, and consists in certain improvements which will be fully disclosed in the following specification and claim.
According to the construction hereinafter disclosed, the coiiin or burial case is so arranged that the interior illumination thereof can take place only when the supplemental cover has been opened, and thrown back. When the cover is closed, the current is antomatically shut off, so that the battery is thrown out of service. r p i In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification :Figure 1 is a top plan view of the coflin with covers raised. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same with the cover closed. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the coffin.
Reference being had to the drawings and the designating characters thereon, the numeral 1 indicates the cover of the coffin which is provided with two windows or members 2, 3, made of some transparent material, such as glass, mica or the like. Above the windows 2, 3, are secured opaque members 4L, 5, which are so arranged as to cover the windows 2, 8. The supplemental members 4, 5, are secured to the cover 1, by means of hinges 6, 7. On the inner side of the cover 5, are incandescent lamps 10 provided with conductors 11 connected to a battery 8 to supply electric current to the lamps.
The window 2 is provided with a contact 12,
which is engaged by a pin 13 attached to the cover at and presses upon the contact when the cover is closed. To secure covers 4 or 5, locks 14 may be provided as shown in the drawing.
In order to view the body the cover 4 is thrown back, whereby the pin 13 will be released from the contact 12 and the current will be turned on, which is supplied through the conductors 11 to the lamps 10. The cover 5 remains normally closed, and is opened only in case repairs are needed. In this cover the incandescent lamps are located above the window 3 and will illuminate the interior of the coflin. In closing the cover 4:, the pin 13 will again rest on the contact. 12 and the current will thereby be cut oif. The main cover 1 of the coffin is secured to the body 1 thereof by soldered joints 2' formed by the overlapping flanges 3, 3 on the cover 1 and the body 1 shown in Fig. 3.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is A coflin or burial case provided with inner transparent covers or windows, supplemental opaque covers above said transparent covers, an electric illuminant and a battery secured to one of said supplemental covers, and the other supplemental cover arranged to make and break the electric circuit in opening and closing said cover.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
STANISLAVV ZERANSKI.
