To all whom it may concern-.-

Be it known that I, VALENTIN J. SHRYOGK, of Folsomville, in the county of Warrick, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Straw-Cutter; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawing 'and to the letters of reference marked thereon making part ofthis specification.

The nature of my invent-ion consists iu the construction and arrangement'of a straw-cutter, as will In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in `which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, part in section, and Figure 2 is a front view of luy machine. Figure 3 is a view of one of the cutters or blades. A represents the feed-box, supported at or near the `rear end by a standard, B, and at the front end in a frame,.0, upon the front side of which is a face-plate,

D. This face-plate extends a suitable distance on one side of the feed-box, and has an opening cut iu which the front end of the said box is placed.

. In suitable journal-hoxes upon the side of the box A, and inthe frame O, a shaft, E, has its bearings, which shaft projects through another opening in the face-plate, and inwhich opening upon said shaft is placed a head, G.

On the outer or face side of this head are attached fmmone to four cutters, H H, as the nature of the work to be performed may require.

The cutters or blades H are constructed as shown in fig. 3, their inner ends being placed in recesses upon the front side of the head G and secured by screws.

'These blades move, or rather their outer ends move, within a circularl guide, I, attached to the front side of the face-plate D.

Upon the front en d of the shaft E is placed a wheel, J, provided on its outer side with a Wrist-pin, a, on which is attached'a pitman, K.

The upper end of this pitmanv isy placed on a tenon, b, upon the end of a lever, L, which passes through a vertical vslot in the frame O, and is pivoted at its rear end to the standard B.

'lhe lever L is operated by means of another' lever, M, pivoted on one side of the box A, and passing across the saine, as shown in fig. 2, the two levers being connected by the bar N.

.For cutting oats or straw'one blade will be attached f to the head G, for cutting cabbage for krout two blades, and three or four blades for cutting tobacco for chewing or smoking, or cabbage for slaw.
