To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES L. Daron- LIER, a citizen of th United States, residing in the city of New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Strap Terminals and Hooks, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a detachable strap terminal, provided with a hook, and it has more particular reference to catch-hooks of that character secured to the ends of strap watch-bracelets, which are adapted to be secured around the wrist of the wearer, to hold a watch or watch-holder, or other like article of jewelry.

The invention is directed more particularly, to the means of securing the strap to the catch-hook, as well as to a means for closing the entrance to the catch-hook, and more particularly toward the rendering of the catch-hook and strap interchangeable with the greatest of facility and ease of manipulation.

The object of my invention is first to provide an inexpensive and durable catch-hook for strap bracelets and other similar articles of ewelry, whereby the security of the hook, when engaged with the link or bow, shall be assured, and second, to provide a means, whereby the strap may be removably secured to the catch-hook.

These objects I attain by the features of construction, as illustrated in the drawings forming part of this specification, and the corelative appended descriptive matter, when taken in connection therewith, and the distinct features of novelty are pointed out in the claims at the conclusion of the specification.

With reference to the drawings, Figure 1 is a rear plan view of my improved detachable strap terminal and hook, together with a like view of the end of the strap attached thereto, and secured in position to the strap terminal by my improved hook guard, in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevational view thereof, taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

In both figures, similar characters of reference designate like or the same parts throughout, wherein,

1 designates a bracelet strap, or the like, composed of leather ribbon, or a ribbon of silk, or other suitable material. This has intermediate of its width, a transversely out button-hole or eye 2, situated substantially toward the extremity, designated 3, of the strap. The button-hole or eye 2, in pliable or frayable material, of which the strap 1 may be composed, is reinforced by an eyelet 4, provided with laterally extending heads 5 on either side of the strap 1.

6 refers to my improved strap terminal and hook, which has preferably, a longitudinally curved top 7, and integral lateral parallel walls 8, and overlapping outer end walls 9. The top 7 has converging end extensions 10 and 11 respectively. The latter is narrowed out and elongated, and bent over to form a hook 12. This latter is bent over the walls 9 and the strap 1, where it extends and is positioned over the latter in a line intermediate of the width thereof, and to an extent, which will approximately bring it to the adjacent edge of the buttonhole or eye 2. Th free end of the hook 12 is bent outwardly, to form a bill 13, and a curved portion 14.

From the converging end extension 11, where the hook 12 is initially bent, the latter is deflected gradually in the bend, to form between the outer edges of the walls 9, and the inner surface of the hook 12, an open ring 15, the opening of which is presented to a gap 16, between the free edges of the walls 9, and the inner surface of the hook 12. The outer ends of the walls 9 are preferably curved, to provide a socket 17, to conform to and be contiguous with the open ring 15, as effected by the bending of the hook 12. The free edges of the walls 9 are flanged over the strap 1, to form an end guard 18 therefor.

The curved top 7 has an integrally formed, transverse button or stud 19, formed in a manner, and positioned between the Walls 8 of the catch-hook and strap terminal, to correspond with and engage in the buttonhole 2, or the corresponding eyelet thereof 4:. The stud 19 is of an oblated tubular formation, as characterized by the bore or socket 20. Intermediately situated within the socket 20, and perpendicularly projecting from the top 7, within the said socket, is a shouldered stud 21. Carried by the shouldered stud 21, in pivotal relation, is my improved rotatable button-head and hook guard 22. This is of the same form, and of the same size as the free end outer perimeter of the stud 19, whereby, when it is positioned on the latter, it will cap the same and cover the bore or socket 20, and lie flush with the outer perimeter of the stud 19.

The head 22 is provided with a tubular integral neck or stem 23, which is situated intermediately, thereof, and projecting perpendicularly therefrom, and is adapted to pivotally engage the shouldered stud 21, and swivel thereon within the bore 20. The head 22 has formed in its free end, a socket 24, corresponding to the curved portion 14, of the hook 12, and the opposite extremity thereto is provided with a knob 25. The head 22 is retained in position upon the shouldered stud 21, by a fiat rivet head 26, formed thereon after the said head is assembled therewith.

hen my improved detachable strap terminal and hook is in service, in connection with a bracelet, the parts thereof, which lie in contact with the arm or wrist of the wearer, will be the knob 25, the bill 13, and that portion of the hook 12 opposite the gap 16. The inner surface, or that which is adapted to lie in contact with the wrist of the wearer, is indicated by the broken line zr:0 in Fig. 2.

The strap 1 is secured to the detachable strap terminal. and hook by rotating the button-head 22 into a position to register with the stud 19, whence the two will rest flush with each other. The end of the strap is in serted under the bill 13 and curved portion 14 of the hook 12, and is passed under the end guard 18 of the outer end wall 9. The button-hole or eye 2, and the eyelet 4 are then passed over the stud l9 and the head 22 rotated to assume a position transverse to that of the button-hole 2 until the curved portion 14 of the hook is brought into engagement with the socket 24, when the said head will be latched in this position, as afforded by the spring tension of the hook 12. Upon rotating the head 22, by the knob 25 initially, the resistance of the spring tension of the hook 12 shall have been overcome and the curved portion 14 displaced from the socket 24, and the operation of removing the strap 1 from the catch-hook may be repeated.

It is obvious that the engagement of the button-head 22 with the hook 12 effects the secure guarding of the latter against any accidental displacement of a ring or how, or link, engaged within the open ring 15 of the hook 12, since the same, in making its escape through the gap 16, would become wedged between the portion 14, and the socket 24, while the bill 13 of the hook 12, would be thrust against the wrist of the wearer.

It is obvious that the position of the stud 19, with respect to the hook 12, may be reversed, whereby, the former would be brought over the latter and the bill 13 would become engaged with the socket 24 by hearing inwardly therein, or in a direction to ward the wrist of the wearer without de parting from the spirit of my invention.

It will be understood by the preceding description of my invention, that the button head 22, combined with the stud 19, and the catch-hook 12, provide a combined strap fastening device and hook guard for detachable strap terminals and hooks, while the end guard 18 boxes the free edge of the strap in effecting additional security thereto against displacement thereof, thus accomplishing the object of my invention, and having fully described the same, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States.

1. In a detachable strap terminal and heck, of the character described, a longitudinally curved plate, provided with inte gral lateral parallel walls, and integral outer end walls, said plate having a converging end extension which is narrowed and elongated, and bent over the end walls in the form of a hook, said longitudinal curved plate being provided with an integral tubular and transversely elongated stud adjacent to the free end of the said hook, and a rotatable button-head for the said stud, adapted to engage the said hook.

2. In a detachable strap terminal and hook, a strap securing stud, provided with a rotatable head, and adapted to engage the free end of the hook.

In a detachable strap terminal and integral hook, a curved plate provided with lateral parallel integral walls and converging integral end walls, and a transversely elongated stud carried by the plate, between the lateral walls, a rotatable head, carried by the stud, and adapted to engage the free end of the hook.

4. In a detachable strap terminal and hook, the combination of a strap, having an eye therein, a stud carried by the strap ter ininal, and a rotatable head carried by the stud engaging the strap and the free end of the hook, substantially as described.
