W. H. EMANUEL. SLAW 0R KRAUT GUTTER. APPLICATION FILED 1320.24.1912.
Patented Nov. 18, 1913.
swift-www0 (f s' i PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM I-I. EMANUEL, OF NESQUEHONING, PENNSYLVANIA.
SLAW OR KRAUT CUTTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 24, 1912.
Patented Nov. 1 8, 1913. Serial No. 738,424.
To all whom 'it iii-ay concern.'
Be it known that l., IVILLIAM l-l. EMAN- Iuii., a citizen of the United States, residing at Nesquelioning, in the county of Carbon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Slaw or Kraut Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to slaw or krant cutters and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide simple and ellicient means for attaching the cutter to receptacles, pans or like devices.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having adjustable means for securing the device to pans, or receptacles of different sizes.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the cutting board showing the device applied to a receptacle. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 3-8 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the board is constructed of longitudinal side members 1 and 2 between which is secured a platform 3 having a diagonally cut end l.-. The side members 1 and 2 extend beyond the diagonally cut end and have pivoted between their ends upon the pivot inembers 5 the usual form of cutting board Gliaving a diagonal end 7 to match with the diagonal end 4 so as to produce a discharge slot. Secured over the diagonal edge 7 is the usual cutting blade 8 and this knife is held in ad- `iusted position by a bolt 9 which passes through the side members 1 and 2 and through a channel 10 in the cutting board (3 which channel is oval in cross-section to permit the vertical adjustment of the board. The bolt is provided as is usual with a clamping nut 1l which when set holds the bolt in adjusted position as will be readily understoo The side members have secured to their outer faces suitable plates 12 having downwardly and inwardly bent ears 13 to which are integrally attached the rim engaging fingers .14. best seen in Fig. 1. These fingers have downturned ends 15 adapted to engage the side of a receptacle and the fingers are so spaced away from the undcrface of the side members as to permit them to engage under the riin of a receptacle such as that shown at 16 in Fig. 1.
The underside of the platform 3 is provided with a longitudinal groove or channel 17 and lying under said groove or channel is a guiding plate 1S having a longitudinal slot l!) therein of slightly less width than the width of the groove 17. Arranged to slide in this groove 17 and to rest upon the oif'erhaiiging edges of the plate 1S is a plate 20 centrally apertured to receive a clamping screw 21 which passes through the same and the finger plate 22 and has threaded thereon a clamping button or knob 28. The plate 22 is provided with receptacle engaging lingers 2l: having downtui'ned ends 25 intermediate the legs tlie plate has formed thereon ears 2G which are bent in opposition to the fingers and extend up through the slot 19 and lap over the edges of the plate 20 so as to hold the same in proper relative position with the linger plate as will be readily understood, and yet permit the movement of the plate 2O as it is acted upon by the screw and clamping button 21 and 23. By loosening the clamping button 23 it may be seen that the finger plate may be moved on the plate 18 longitudinally upon the plattlie receptacle opposite to that engaged by the fingers 14 and when the button is set the finger plate will he locked in position thereby holding the cutter firmly on the receptacle. It will be noticed that the fingers 111 are arranged in separate pairs one of which is at the end of the sido piece 22 and the other pair arranged intermediate their length so as to permit relatively large ad- Justincnt.
that is claimed is Means for attaching a member to a receptacle which comprises separated pairs of receptacle engaging fingers rigidly secured to the member adjacent the side edges, said member having a groove, a slotted plate mounted over the groove, a plate fitted withfoiin so as to be engaged with that side of`
