LOOK.
To all whom it may concern." v
Be it known that I, MIKE Bonorzs, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Sterling, in the county of Whiteside'and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to )cks, aid the primary object of my .inve. vide a simple and durable 20k embodying comparatively few parts that are inexpensive to manufacture, easy to assemble and highly eliicient for the purposes forwhich it is intended;
Another object offlthis inventiori is to provide a key operated lock for doors that has a locking bolt firmly held in an extended or retractedposition, the bolt having a movement that is easily accomplished by the operation of a key within the lock. 7
With the;above and other objects in View, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed. a w x Reference will now'be had tothe drawing. wherein Figure l is a rear elevation of the lock,
. partly broken away, 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a detached locking bolt.
A'lock in accordance with this invention comprises abase plate 1 having one end thereof bent at right angles, as at2 to close the end of a casing 3 riveted or otherwise connected, as at 4130 the plate 1. The plate 1 is rectangular and has openings 5 to accommodate screws or other fastening means employed for securing the lock to a door.
The casing 3 is of less area than the plate -1 and the rear wall of said casing has an opening 6 alining with a key opening 7 in the plate 1.
The right angular end of the plate 1 has a bolt opening 8 for a bolt 9 that is rec-v tangular in cross section. This bolt has the under side thereof providedwitha groove 10 and the inner end of said bolt, at one side thereof, is provided with a .pin 11 that extends into a send-circular slot .12 formed Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 6, 1911.

in the casing a The innerend of the bolt 9 is normally supported by the pin 11 and the. outeg' end thereof by the walls of the openmg 4 I Arranged transversely of the casing 3 is a pin l3,and secured to said pin within the casing is a flat spring 14 that bears upon the upper side of the bolt 9.
Extending into the key opening 7 is "a key 15 aving the inner end thereof reduced, as at 16 to engage in the opening 6. bit-17 provided with a slot 18, said-slot providing clearance'for a ward 19 arranged upon the inner side of the casing 3. The bit I7 of the key 15 is adapted to engage in the recess 10, elevate and shift the bolt 9; As the bit engages the roof of the recess 10, the pin 11 is gradually elevated in the slot 12, the walls of said-slot guiding the pin llforwardly whereby the bolt 9 will'be exte ded, as-shown by dotted lines in, Fig. 1.
It is thought that the operation and utility of the lock will be apparent without further description, and while in the-drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodi- 'ment of the invention, it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof are susceptible to such variations as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I 'claim is A boltage mechanism for lockscomprisingan upwardly movable and a longitudinally shiftable oblong bolt rectangular in cross sectiona' any point throughout its length and having its upper face uninterrupted from end to end and its lower face in proximit to its rear end formed with a transverse y extendingrectangular groove of the same length as the width of the bolt,
. af'pin projecting laterally ,lrom one side of the bolt at a point above the plane of the top wall of the groove and positioned near the inner corner of one side of the bolt and adapted to extend into a slot in the bolt casing whereby the inner end of the bolt is supported when normal andfurthcr constituting guiding means for the bolt when shifted upwardly, a downwardly extending and rearwardly projectingcurved spring Patented Oct. as, isia.
