Be it known that lyGur E. Tnrarni's', a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Baltimore cit ,-Maryland, have invented certain new an useful Improvements in Combination PullingJaclrs, of which the Iollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a combination tool for quickly and easily removing pulleys, gears, wheels and the like from their shafts or hubs. i
The principal object of the invention is to provide a combination device which is simple and eiiicient and which is adjustable to various sizes of alleys, wheels, etc.
Other. objects and the novel features of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connectionwith the accompanying drawings, in which: 5

Referring to'the drawings, 10 designates a bar rectangular in cross section and made of steel or other suitable material. About centrally intermediate the ends of the bar 10, and formed integrally with the sides thereof, there are'curved, horizontally extending projecting portions 11 and 12 for reinforcing the bar at or near its central section. The bar 10 forms oppositely extending arms for the central, threaded sore su pcrting section.
spending from the under side of the bar in line with the reinforced section there is an integral extension. A wrench head 13 is formed on the integral extension adjacent the bar 10. The outer end of the extension is bored out and forms a combined male and female cap or nipple 14, which has external threads 15 and internal threads 16.
A threaded opening 17 extends centrally I t-hrou h the reinforced section of the bar 20 extending through the head 19 of the jack screw serves to receive a lever arrnQl by means of whlch the screw may be turned.

Each jaw comprises a prismatic head section 23 which has four rectangular faces meeting at right angles. In each of the vertical faces of said head section there is a rectangular opening 25, the dimensions of which are slightly greater than'the cross sectional dimensions of the bar. The open ings in the faces intersect and extend through the head. They connect with the openings in the faces opposite so as to receive the end of the bar 10 and allow the latter to pass through the head 23, thereby permit-ting adjustment of each jaw longitii dinally of the bar.
There is a finger piece 27, the shank 28 of which is threaded and passes through a threaded opening 29 in the top of the head 23 to engage against the cross bar 10 and hold the jaw 22 against movement when adusted to suit.
The shank 30 is connected integrally with the head 23 of the jaw'22, and the end 31 of said shank is bent around to form a hoolt 32.
By reason of the four openings in each head of thejaws .29. the coiiperating hooks 32, 32 may be reversed and adjusted in any one of a number of positions to accoinmo date the object upon which the jaclr is to operate. F or instance, the hooks may be disposed as in Fig. 1 in the plane or". the bar 10, facing each' other, so as to engage the things of a pulley or gear from the outer side, or they maybe disposed as in Fig. 2", in the sameplane adjusted to face in opposite directions to engage the flange at the inner side. They may also be adjusted to a position at right angles to the bar from either side, and it will be'apparent that a number of other combinations of ments are possible.
adj ust- To operate the device the jack screw 18 I is retracted sufliciently, and the jaws 22, 22- are adjusted to the object, such as a pulley, which it is desired to remove, from its support, such as a shaft. The screw heing turned to move forward, the tip end will engage the end of the shaft causing a pulling pressure and will force the bar and jaws connected thereto outwardly and carry with them the pulley connected thereto.
The cap 14, having the male and female threads, which is located on the bar in line with the jack screw, may be used in conjunction with or in place of the hooked jaws onthe hub of a Wheel which is threaded at its end to receive a cap, a construction which is common in automobiles. The arrange ment mayalso be applied to assist in the removal of valves in engines of the internal combustion type especially, The member 14: is screwed onto the-threaded porlion and the forcing screw when turned will cause a pressure in line vwith both elements of the tool, When it is desired to use the nipple alone the hooked members are removed from the bar:

Various modifications may be made With-- out departing from the spirit of the invention, and 1t is theretore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the exact details as shown and described except as required by the appended claims.
Having thus described the l11'\11tl011,Wl19.-l1 is claimed 1s:
1. In a tool for removing pulleys, gears and the like from their supporting shafts,
the combination of a forcing screw adapted to be setin line with the shait and to engage the latter at its end, a bar for operatively supporting the screw, independently adjustable members supported on the bar art oppoin intersecting planes, said openings being adapted to receive the bar and arranged so that the said lateral projections may be positioned to be parallel or at an angle to said bar.
2. In a tool of the class described, the combination of a jack screw adapted to be located in line With an element and to engage the latter, a member for operatively supporting the screw, and an internally and externally threaded nipple centrally in line with the screw and integrally connected to said member.
'3. In a tool of the class described, the combination of a screw, means for operativcly supporting the screw and having oppositely directed arms, adjustable members slidable on the arms and having projections thereon for engaging an element, each member having an opening thcrethrough to receive the bar, and means for securing the members in their adjusted posit-ions.
