IMPROVEMENT IN WRENCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,304, dated October 24, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS D. MGBRIDE, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State oi' Pennsylvania, have invented a new and uselul Improvement in /Vrench; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which Will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
The figure is a detailed perspective view of my improved Wrench.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved Wrench, which shall be so constructed that it may be adjusted in different positions to adapt it for turning,` nuts or bolts in difterent positions or in any position; and it consists in the construction and combination ofthe parts ofthe Wrench, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the head ofthe Wrench, upon one side of which are formed the jaws a? to grasp the nut or i bolt-head. The opposite end or part of the head A is made rectangular in form, and has holes a2 a3 (t4 formed in it to receive the end of the handle B. The hole a2 is formed in the end of the head A in line with the jaws al. The hole a3 is formed in the side of the head A at right angles with the plane ofthe jaws a1 and in the same plane. The handle B is made With a set or bend near one end, as shown in the igure, so that it may be as a straight or S-handle, as may be desired. The holes a2 a3 a4 are made slightly tapering, as are also the ends ofthe handle B, so that it may be tapped firmly int-o said holes. The head A and handle B are designed to be both cast so as to require no fitting, thus enabling the Wrench to be made at small expense. This construction enables the Wrench to be easily and conveniently adjusted to take hold of the nut or bolt-head Whatever may be its position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The head A a] a2 a3 a4 and handle B, constructed substantially as herein shown and described, to adapt them to be used and adjusted in connection with each other, as and for the purposes set forth.
THOMAS D. MCBRIDE.
