-:1 all'whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. Posr. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mansfield, in the county of Richlahd and Have invented a new and Improved \Vrench, of which the following and exact description. My invention relates 'to a wrench coma novel arrangement of wrench jaws movable jaw of the wrench.
The invention will be more particularly explained in the specific description hereinafter to be given.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings torm'ing a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

In constructing the Wrench in accordance with my invention, an elongated handle 10 is formed at one end with a fixed wrench jaw ll. which preferably is disposed at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the handle fixed jaw 11 is a movable jaw 12, the base 13 of which is disposed at approximately a right angle to the jaw proper and is guided on the. fixed 'aw. Thus the fixed jaw has a transverse 40 slot therethrongh. in which the base ot the jaw 12 slides. and one aw is formed \VFtll ribs 14, these being, in the example shown. formed on the inner walls of the slot formed in the fixed jaw; the movable jaw has re" and receiving the said ribs. The lower side of the base 13 of the movable jaw is formed with teeth 16, and a locking bloclcl? is formed with teeth 18 to engage the teeth 16 of the mov- The said locking block has move menttoward and from the movable jaw in a recess 19 formed in the wrench at the base of the fixed jaw. The mentioned retaining plate has an opening 28 at the center. of non-circular form. and the bolt head 25 is of non-circular form and of a less size than the opening 28, so that the recess permits the movement of the loclcingr block and the bolt to and from the fixed jaw, and the arrangement. furthermore is such that the bolt head is prevented from turning. The opposite end of the bolt 22 receives a nut 29. said nut being non-circular for atleast a portion of its outer edge. vand adapted to be received in a recess 30 termed in the fixed portion of the wrench. as xhown clearly in Fig. l. At the end of the handle opposite the described wren ch jaws, the handle is formed with a plier jaw 33 that cooperates with the movable jaw 34 of the pliers, the jaw 34 belng formed integrally with an element 35 fashioned after the manner of one of the handles of known pliers. The handled element 35 has detachable pivotal engagement with the handle 10, adjacent to the fixed jaw 33 of the plicrs, tl1e connection being effected as follows: In the element 35 a slot 'or opening 36 is formed, the preferred construction having two of such openings, as-
shown, either one of which may be passed over a T-head 37 formed on a bolt 38. The bolt 38 passes also through a hole39 in the handle 10, said hole being non-circular, and the corresponding portion of the bolt 38 being similarly formed \10 prevent the rotation of the bolt relatively to the handle 10. The bolt is held in-place by a nut 40. The arrangement referred to iis such that to apply the element 35 the latter is turned to a pos1- tion to bring its slot 36 parallel with the head 37 of the bolt, and pass over said head,
after which the element. 35 is given a turnto' approximately ninety degrees to bring'the slot 36 and head 37 at approximately right angles to each other, in which positlon the jaw 34 of the pliers formed on the element 35 is approximately parallel with the fixed jaw 33 of the pliers, and from which position the element 35 may be oscillated to close or open the jaws of the liers, without bringing the slot 36 and hea 37 into alinement. The jaws 33, 34, at a point between the pivot and the outer ends of saidjaws, are formed respectively with ni pers 41, 42. When the pliers are not require. for use, the element 35 is held in fixed relation to the handle 10 by a spring hook 43,. the hooked ends of which enter holes 4-1, 45 formed respectively in the wrench handle 10 and in the element 35 of the pliers. The inner end of the element 35 is ta red and formed into a screw driver 46, which may be utilized by detaching the element 35 from the wrench first-mentioned jaw and provided with a 4 base at approximately right angles to said movable jaw, the base having teeth at the under side thereof, the wrench having in the fixed portion back of the movable jaw a recess, a locking block movable in said recess toward and from the movable jaw and hav ing teeth to engage with the teeth of said jaw, a spring normally tending to movethe block in the direction of the movable jaw, a bolt passing through the fixed side portion of the wrench, and through the said locking block, the said bolt having a noncircular element at an end thereof, the wrench having a non-circular recess accommodating said element, said bolt being movable axially to withdraw the mentioned ele ment from its recess, the bolt being provided with a spring normally tending to maintain the mentioned element in its recess, and a detachable retaining plate on the fixed portion of the wrench outside of the locking block and its recess. a
