JACOB J. BAYER, 0F COLUMBUS, OHIO.
SNAP-HOOK.
Application filed March 20, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB J. BAYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Snap-Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is primarily to provide a double snap hook which is easily manipulated and in which all the working parts are protected from injury and wear.
The invention is embodied in the example herein particularly shown and described, the feature of novelty being pointed out in the claim. v
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 00-x Fig. 2.
The body or frame of the hook consists of a base portion 5 having hook members 5 at its ends turned toward each other and erect guiding members 5 at its sides. These guiding members are grooved or recessed at their inner sides.
6 designates the tongue member. Said tongue member has opposite lateral enlargements 6 at its middle to fit in the recesses of the erect guiding members. The guiding members permit the tongue member to be raised and lowered and tilted. The tongue member is secured at its middle on the end of a pin 7 that extends through a hole 5 in the base of the frame where said pin can be provided with a head 7 The under side of the base is shown as provided with a socket 5 deep enough to receive and protect the head 7 when the tongue member is in normal or closed position or with its ends Specification of Letters Patent.

against the ends of the hook members. Encircling the pin 7 between the base and tongue member is a coiled spring adapted to yieldingly hold the tongue member up with its ends against the ends of the hooks.
In practice the tongue member is depressed, as shown by the broken lines, with a digit of the hand at the end with which it is desired to connect or from which it is desired to remove a link as indicated in Fig. 3. The characters 8, 8, illustrate links that are connected with the hook. In depressing the tongue the pin 7 is depressed and further extended through the hole in the base and the spring is more or less compressed, but when the pressure is removed, and there is no interference, the tongue is automatically restored to normal or closed position as shown in full lines.
The forms of the parts can be changed without departing from the gist of the invention as claimed.
hat I claim is:
A multiple snap hook including, in com- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Qommissioner of Batents, Washington, D. G.
