SHELF BRACKET. APPLIGATION FILED lume, 1909. RENBWED MA Patented Mar. 11, 1913.

v PAUL Rossum; corriamo, or
RENFREW, GNTARI, CANADA, ASSIGNGIR T0 THE BARNET MANUFACTURING CLJIPANY LTD., DF RENFE-REV, CANADA,
.SHELF-BRCKET.
To all whom z' may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL RUSSELL CUM- MING, of Renfrew, in the county of Renfrew,
Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shelf-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
My invent-ion relates to improvements in shelf brackets and its objects are to provide aA simple and comparatively inexpensive form of bracket which will occupy1 a small space, but which will nevertheless afford a rigid support to the shelf, the bracket being preferably pressed from sheet metal as hereinat'ter described. in detail in the accompanying specifications and drawings.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bracket, with the shelf indicated Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the shelf supporting member. Il ig. 3 is a transverse sect-ion through the shelf supporting member. Fig. 4; is a rear View ot' the bracket.
In the drawings, like figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in each ligure. Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the bracket consists essentially of two members, namely, the side member A adapted to be secured to a fixed support, and a bracket member B adjustably held thereon.
The adjustable bracket may be applied to a great many uses, and is particularly convenient for use in the interior of refrigera tors and like receptacles, and in this case the side member A will be attached to the wall of the chamber of the rei'ri erator, a suitable number of brackets being provided to give the required support to ii-he shell", there being usually four brackets to each shelf. f In accordance with the invent-ion, the side member A is provided with a plurality of. slots, 10, 10, 10, each of which is formed with an enlarged, substantially circular upper portion 11 arid lower narrow portion 12 formed with substantially parallel and vertically extending sides.
In order to prevent the flanges on the shelf supporting member, as hereinafter de- Speciiication of Letters Patent. Application led January 28, 1909, Serial No. 474,556.
, ably,
Fatented Mar. i., ldt?. Renewed Eday 2G, 193.1. Serial No. 629,612.
scribed, binding against t-he wall orv other fixed support to which thevside member A is attached, flanges 2O and 21 are formed in the sides of the side'member adapted to support the surface of the same a distance outwardly removed from the tace et the support.
The shelf supporting member B is preferthough not necessarily, formed of pressed sheet metal, and is provided with a central portion 13 forni/ed vby a told 'of the sheet metal, the inner end `of the central portion being provided with projections 14 and 15 which are formed, into divergent flanges. The shape of these flanges is such that they will just pass through the enlarged part 11 of the slot and then when the shelf supporting member is pressed down into the narrow part 'of the aperture, the parallel sides of the aperturel will rinly hold the central portion 13 at the juncture of the flange, and the flanges themselves will bear against the inner side of the side member.
The top 16 of the shelf supporting memn ber is formed substantially horizontal Whereby it will all'ord eective support to the shelf C, and in order to hold the shelf support-ing member rigidly in position on the side member, downwardly turned flanges 17 and 18 are formed on the outer edges ofthe top, the inner edges of said flanges being adapted to constitute a face 19 which will abut the outer surface oi. the side member.
,It will be observed that the flanges 17 and 18 are very el'ective in holding the shelf supporting member rigidly in horizontal position as they abut the face of the side member and prevent any tilting movement.
llihat I claim as my invention is: Y
A shelf bracket including a side member having a suitable slot therein, a shelf supporting member pressed from sheet metal and having a central portion formed of a' fold of the metal and provided with projections on the end which are formed into divergent flanges adapted to extend through the slot in the side member and engage the under face of the same, the said shelf Supn 'the inner ends 0i which are adapted to cons'tute a face to bea? against 'the outeln surface of ihe Side member to maintain the shelf supporting member in poper position with respectthereto.
n Witness whereof have hereunio sei', my hand. 1n he presence o two Witnesses,
