To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLARENCE C. FLEM- ING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Amityville, in the county of Suifolk and State of New York, have invented certain packing and transporting the same. My invention relates to a collapsible stand for displaying encils and similar objects.

The object ofD my invention is to provide a device of this character having provisions for supportin and displaying a very considerable num er of pencils or the like in an exceedingly compact manner and one in which they may be advantageously displayed and readily placed therein and removed therefrom, the device being inexpensive to manufacture, of pleasing appearance and collapsible so that various portions thereof lie substantially fiat and parallel with each other for conveniencrlehin other material of the requisite stillness and ability to be folded or creased, a stand which is triangular in cross-section, havin members for holding the pencils arrange on the two side faces of the triangular stand so that the pencils or other similar objectspositioned therein will be mounted in two rows, staggered in relation to each other and each parallel to the face of the stand upon which they are positioned. Preferthe stand of two sheets of paper or cardboard, one of which has formed integral therewith a member or members for holding the pencils lupon one side face of the device, this sheet also forming the base portion and two inclined side portions of the stand. The other sheet is secured to the other side face of the stand and has a similar member or members arranged to hold pencils in staggered relation to those held in the member or members on the other side face as stated.

In order that my invention may be more clearly understood, attention is hereb directed to the accompanying drawingsorming part of the specification and illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention.

Referring to the drawings, the base portion 1, the inclined sideportions 2 and 3, the pencil- holding members 4 and 5 on the one side and 6 and 7 on the other side in my preferred device are formed as follows. The first or larger sheet is bent into tr1- angular form beginning at the edge 8, the paper being creased as indicated at 9 to form the apex of the triangle and at 10 and 11 to form the base angles of the triangle. From the angle 11 the sheet extends assis indicated at 12 parallel to and about the flange of the sheet extendin from the edge 8 to the apex 9, portion 12 o the sheet being glued or otherwise secured to this edge portion of the first sheet. From the apex 9, the sheet is bent outwardly to form a flange or portion 13 extending approximately at right angles to the side 2 for a distance be vond the side 2 slightly greater than the diameter of a lead pencil. Flange 13 is bent at the edge 14 to form a portion 15 extending parallel to side 2 to the edge 16 where the sheet is bent inwardly to form a portion 17 parallel to the portion 13. The sheet is again bent on the line 18 into parallel relationl with the sheet 2. The portion 19 of the sheet extends from the line 18 to the line 20 parallel to sheet 2 to which it is glued oi` otherwise secured. At the edge 20, the sheet is again bent outwardly to form a portion 2l parallel to portions 13 and 17, thence from the line 22 to the line 23 arallel to the side 2 and then from the lme 23 to the line 24 `again parallel to surfaces 21 and 17 to the base angle 10 ofthe stand. From the crease 24 to the edge of the sheet at 25 a iiange is formed which is glued or otherwise secured to the base 1 of the stand.

The pencil- holding members 6 and 7 on the other side face of the stand 'are then formed in the following manner. Begin ning at the edge 26, the second sheet is securedto the side-member 3 to the line 27 line 29 the sheet extends inwardly substantially at a right angle to the side 3 to the line 30. From line 30 to line 31 the sheet is parallell to and is secured to the portion of the first sheet comprising side 3. From line 31 to line 32 the sheet again extends outwardlyv at a right angle to form the upper face of the lower pencil holding member on .this side, the side face of this member 7 extending from line 32 to'line 33 parallel to side 3, the sheet again being bent from line 33 to line 34beneath base an le 11 of the triangle to form the lower si e of member 7.

, From line 34 to the edge of the sheet at line 3,5 the sheet is secured to base member 1.-

A series of openings 36 are formed in the upper Hange 13 of member 5 through which pencilsmay be passed and a series of openings 37 in line therewith in the lower flange of member 5 as is shown in Fig. 2. There is also a series of similar openings 38 formed in the top flange of member 4 in line with openings 36 and 37. Similarly, openings 39, 40 and '41 are formed in the top and lower vfaces of member 6 and the top face of Y member 7 respectively, these openings being ,v respectively 'inline with each other. The

' shown in Fig. 4, will be in two rows staggered in relation to each other as shown.

By this means, an exceedingly compact and may be printed on the si e surfaces of the formed by exten stand if desired. A display stand formed of two sheets of paper secured together in triangular form, one of said sheets being folded to form a base portion and two inclined side portions, one of said side portions having boxlike holders extending outwardly therefrom, adjacent the top and bottom edges, formed by extending one end of said sheet about said side portion and securing it thereto in such manner as to provide said outwardlyextending holders, the same having openings therethrough, and the other of said side p0rtions having similar box-like holders extending outwardly therefrom, adjacent the top and bottom edges, formed by securing the second sheet to said second side portion, with the edges of said sheet secured to the upper portion and adjacent the lower edge, respectively, of said second side portion, substantially as set forth.

A display stand formed of paper bent and. secured together to make a collapsiblel device of triangular form, havingA a base portion, adapted to be bent intermediate its side edges, and two inclined side portions, one of said side portions having box-like .collapsible holders extending outwardly therefrom, adjacent its top and bottom edges, having openings extending therethrough, and the other side portion having similar holders extending outwardly therefrom, adjacent its top A'and bottom edges, formed by securing one end of a sheet adj a# cent the upper edge of said second side portion, bending the sheet outwardly, thence downwardly, thence inwardly to said side portion, securing said sheet to said side'portion, below the said upper end of said sheet, and bending said sheet again outwardly to form a holder having openings therethrough adjacent the lower edge of said side portion, substantially as set forth.
