JAMES A. DOUGLAS, OF GRAND CHAIN, ILLINOIS.
HOLDING ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES A. DOUGLAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Chain, in the count-y of Pulaski and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holding Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an improvement in holding attachments for use with various implements, as pencils, pens, fans, brooms and the like, in the use of which holder the implement may be supported in a convenient manner, and in the case of articles for which such attachment is desired providing a means whereby the article may be temporarily attached to the person of the user.
The main object of the present invention is the provision of a holder which may be readily attached to the article and which when in position so provides a convenient means for suspending the article from any fixture or for attaching the article to the person of the wearer.
The invention will be described in the following specification, reference beind had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a View in elevation, showing the holder applied to a broom. Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevation of the holder. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 2.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, my improved holder comprises a body 1, preferably of metal including drawing, my improved holder comhollow body section 3. The latter is arranged to provide a comparatively thin wall which is slitted for the greater portion of its length, as at at, to provide the necessary Specification of Letters Patent.

spring action to frictionally secure the holder in place on the article. The upper portion of the head is gradually reduced until it is approximately flat, as at 5, and this flat portion is formed with an opening 6. In the plane of the fiat portion the head is extended to provide a hook 7, the edge of the head underlying the hook projection being preferably cut inwardly for a slight distance, as at 8, to provide for an effective hooking action in connection with a support.
In Fig. 1 the holder is shown as applied to a broom 11, in whichuse the hook 7 and opening 6 provide for suspending the broom from any appropriate fixture, as will be readily understood.
The holder is to be constructed in any desired size and will be serviceable with articles which are adapted in any way to permit the connection of the holder thereto.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
As an article of manufacture, a holder, comprising a solid head portion, a tubular portion extended from said head portion andintegral therewith, the said tubular portion being provided with a longitudinally extended slot, the upper end of said head portion being flattened and a hook integrally formed on said flattened portion and extending outwardly and downwardly toward the tubular portion, said flattened portion being provided with a centrally disposed transverse opening.
In testimony whereof I alfiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES A. DOUGLAS.
