SEAL-FASTENING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1912.
Application filed August 10, 1912. Serial No. 714,843.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon K. Jnssur, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Seal-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
'The invention relates to a seal fastening, of the type comprising a casing and a shackle having arms entering said casing; and consists in the construction, hereinafter set forth, whereby the shackle afterinsertion becomes locked in said casing so that it can not be removed without mutilation of the device and consequent revelation of tamper ing therewith.
In the accompanying drawings--Figure -1 is a face view, ,with the cover removed, showing the position of the parts, before entrance of the shackle. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the position of the parts with the shackle engaged. Fig, 3 shows the spring, Fig. 4 shows the inner'plate, Fig. 5 shows the body portion of the casing, and Fig. 6 the cover, each separately and in perspective. Fig. 7 is a section on the line w, w of Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The casing, preferably of metal, has a body portion A and cover B. Notches C are made in the 'rim of body portion A, and corresponding holes D in. the rim of the the plate and bent back so as to project from' said plate between the openings H, I. The
arms of the shackle L are shouldered at M. N is a spring in stirrup-form, having its ends 0 bent outwardly and downwardly.
In assembling the parts, the plate E is placed in the body portion A of the casing, with the ends of grooves F, G registerin with the notches C. The spring N 1s place on the plate, with its ends 0 lying in the openings H, I, and is held in place by its cross .piece resting'under the rojection J and betweensaid projection and the rim of body portion A, as shown in Fig. 1.' The cover B is placed on the body portion A,
. and the edges of the cover flange are knurled over said body portion,'soas finally .to secure Y said body portion and cover together.
The'arms of shackle L are inserted through the holes D and'notches G into the grooves F, G, thus pushing the arms of spring N inwardly so that they bear against pro ection K which lies between them. As soon,-however, as the shoulders M on the shackle arms pass the extremities O of the spring, the spring arms move outward, so that said extremities engage over said shoulders, thus locking the shackle in the casing, as shown in Fi 2. The shackle can then not be remove without mutilating the device, and
so revealing the fact.
1; sea astening, com risi a casin a plate thereinhavin two garal l l channel and o enin s in sai channels, a spring in loop orm aving its extremities bent out wardly to enter said openings, and a shackle having shouldered arms'enterin said channels; whereby upon the insertion of said shackle into said channels said spring arms shall resiliently engage with the shoulders on said shackle arms and lock said shackle casing.
3. A. seal fastening, comprising a casing, a plate therein having two parallel channels, and openings in said channels, a spring in loop orm having its extremities bent outwardly to enter said openin projections on said plate located respectively over thecross bar of said spring andbetween the up-- the arms thereof, and a shackle having shouldered arms entering said channels; whereb upon the insertion bf said shackle into sai channels saids ring arms shall resiliently engage with the s oulders on said shackle arms and lock said per portions of shackle in said casing.
In testirnonywhereof I have aflixed my s1gnature in presence of two witnesses;
GEORGE K. JES SUP.
