2 SHEETS-SHEET 1.
HENRY COHEN, or BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
COMBINED TABLE AND IRONING-BOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1912.
.Application filed April 1, 1912. Serial No. 687,808.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY COHEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Tables and Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved combined table, ironing board and sleeve board, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which is extremely cheap, simple and compact and which may be used eithe as a table, an ironing board or a sleeve board, at will.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings z Fignre 1 is a perspective view of a combined table, ironing board and sleeve board, showing the same arranged for use as an ironing board. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, with the ironing board in lowered position out of the way and the sleeve board shown in extended position for use, in full lines, and in withdrawn position for disposal out of the way in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a detail transverse sectional view on the plane indicated by the line C6(L of Fig. 2.
In the embodiment of my invention, I provide a table 1 which consists essentially of a top 2, and supporting legs 3. I also provide a leaf 4 which is connected to one side of the table top by means of hinges 5. Hence, the said leaf may be extended from one side of the table, as indicated in Fig. 3 or may be folded thereon as shown in Fig. 1. To the under side of the hinged leaf are secured standards 6-7, the former being near one end of the leaf and being provided with a guide opening 8. An ironing board 9 is connected at its outer end to the outer standard 6 by means of a hinge 10. Hence, the ironing board may be closed upon the standard. 7 and held thereby and by the standard 6 parallel with the leaf 1 or may he opened upwardly from the standard 7 to enable an article, such, for instance, as a shirt to be conveniently placed on the board 9 for ironing. The board 9 is provided near its free end on its under side with a keeper 11 and a hook 12 is pivotally connected to the standard 7 for engaging said keeper to secure the board when closed upon said standard, if desired.
It will be understood from the foregoing and from reference to the drawings, that when the leaf 4 is closed upon one side of the top of the table, the ironing board 9 with its supporting standards 6-7 are arranged above the table and near one side thereof for use for ironing purposes and that when the leaf -ft is extended horizontally from one side of the table top, the ironing board with its supporting brackets is disposed under the leaf 4 and entirely out of the way. I also provide a sleeve board 1 1. This is arranged on the under side of the leaf 4 and extends through the opening 8 in the standard 6. At the inner end of this sleeve board is a vertical arm 15 which limits the extent of the outward movement of the sleeve board and serves, when the sleeve board is drawn outwardly, to bear against the inner side of the standard 6. This arm is provided with a hook 16 which may engage a keeper 1'? on the inner side of the standard 7 when the sleeve board is in withdrawn position, out of the way, under or opposite the ironing board 9.
While I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departing from the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim 1. A table having a hinged leaf at one side, the said leaf being provided with standards on its under side, and an ironing board attached to the said standards, the said ironing board with its standards, when the leaf is folded on the table, being disposed above the table and when the leaf is extended being arranged in an inverted position under the leaf and at one side of the table out of the way.
2. A table having a hinged leaf at one side, the said leaf being provided with standards on its under side, and an ironing board attached to the said standards, the said ironing board with its standards when the leaf is folded on the table being disposed above the table and when the leaf is extended being arranged in an inverted position under the leaf and at one side of the ing board being provided with coacting devices to look the ironing board thereto.
3. A table having a hinged leaf at one side, the said leaf being provided With standards on its under side, and an ironing board attached to the said standards, the said ironing board with its standards When the leaf is folded on the table being disposed above the table, one of the said standards having a guide opening, and a sleeve board slidably mounted at the under side of the said leaf and extending through the said 15 guide opening.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
HENRY COHEN. Witnesses ALBERT H. MANHARD, GEORGE P. ADAMS.
