To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, JAMES C. Lone, a citizen of the United States, residing at Goldthwaite, in the county. of Mills and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Stenographers Desk, of which the following is a specification;

This invention relates to stenographers desks or copy-holders, and has for its object to provide an improved, .rigid, simple and inexpensive device of this character.

Another object is to provide for a collapsible device of this character which can be compactly folded together.

This invention is embodied in a novel arrangement, construction, and combination of parts, as hereinafter described, and as shown in the drawings, in which similar reference characters indicate similar parts, and in which,-

Referring specifically to the drawings, 23 indicates a baseboard or table which has at the sides thereof the upstanding flanges 12. Legs or standards 5 are ivoted at their upper ends to the rear en s of the flanges or strips, as shown at 18. A brace 8 is connected between the intermediate portions of the legs 5. This table 23 is provided at its upper or rear end with a clam ing member 17 of any suitable type provide with thumb pieces 20 for raising same to receive the object to be held thereby. At the front or lower end of the table is a strip 10 secured between theends of the flanges 12 by bolts 11 which have on their outer ends thumb or wing nuts A. A cross bar 13 is disposed laterally over the table 23 on the upper edgesv of the flanges l2 and has the ends 13" thereof bentover and below the said flanges to retain the bar longitudinally slidable' on the table. A guide or marker 19 is'hinged at 14 to the rear edge of the bar 13 and the free edge of the same is adapted to swing against the table 23. An upstanding stop 16 is provided on the upper side of the marker 19 and flat springs 15 secured to the ends 13 of the bar bear against the flanges 12 to frictionally retain the bar in any position. A vertical bar 6 is pivoted to each leg 5 by -means of upper and lower bearing brackets 7 bent from a strip of metal to fit loosely around the leg 5 and having'the ends thereof secured to the bar 6 and the upper portion thereof is arched or bent forwardly, as shown at 6", and the end thereof is provided with a slotted opening 6. The lower portions of the bar 6 are bent forwardly to form legs 6. To the forward ends of the legs 6 'are pivoted the extensions 21, by a pin or rivet 22 andon their inner ends the extensions 21 are provided with .stops '24 normally bearing a ainst the leg 6 to 'prevent the extensions from swinging upwardly but permitting the slotted ends of the arched portions 6 of the bar 6 receive the bolts 11 in the slots 6 and are clamped between the flanges l2 and the thumb nuts 9 to support the table in an inclined position, the legs 5 supporting the rear of the table, and the bar 6 supporting the forward portions of the table.

In use, this device is set over or in back of the typewriter and the paper or note book is clamped bythe clamping member 17 and the bar 13 is'passed over the same to permit the marker 19 to swing down on the paper and serve as a guide for the matter written thereon. The front, sides and bottom of the device being open allows for the ready insertion of same over the typewriter without interfering with its use or operation. The bar 13 can be slid up or down to mark the successive portions of the matter being said extensionsto be swung downward. Normally the forward copied thereon, the springs 15 frictionally retaining the same in position. On swinging the marker 19 upwardly, the same is held in erect position by the stop 16 seating on the bar l3,and the same may, therefore,

be used as a book-rest when it Is desired to extractportions from record books or copy matter therefrom, etc. The flanges 12' and strip 10 retain the papers, books, etc., on the table. The stop 16 which is in form of a stud projecting from the marker 19 serves as a finger piece by means of which the marker may be swung upward, andvupon the marker swinging upward and beyond the vertical the said stud swings against the bar 13 thereby retaining the marker in upright position to serve as a book rest. The extension 21 in being pivoted to the leg 6 so as to swing downwardly, but being constrained Y from swinging upwardly permits the said extension to be slid in under parts of the typewriter and upon the table being swung backward, from over the typewriter the said extensions are adapted to swing downward to prevent the said extensions from striking the parts of the typewriter under which they are arranged. Upon the table being swung into position, the extensions 21 slide in under the typewriter to normal position, and upon the stop 24 striking the leg 6 the table is supported over the typewriter.

When it is desired to fold the device together, the wing nuts 9 are loosened, thus permitting the arms 6 of the bars 6 to swin free. The arms 6* are then swung inward against the legs or standards 5, thus swinging the legs 6 inward, and the table can then be swung downward on the pivots 18 to compactly collapse the relative, parts. The parts thus, being folded together can be readily carried or stored. The extensions 21 being swingable on the legs 6 allow for the adaptation of the device for special typewriters.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new is A desk comprising a table rear legs pivoted thereto, bolts mounted in the forward end of the table, bars pivoted on the legs having .their upper and lower portions bent forwardly, the lower portions forming forward legs, and the upper portions being slotted to receive the bolts to clamp the ends of the said portions and support the front end of the table.
