Description
Aug. 1o, 1937. c. A. BOU'RNE 2,089,595
TYPISTS DEVICE Filed Sept. 17, 1934 Patented Aug. .10, 1937 UNTE STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
My invention, described in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, is for the use of stenographers and typsts. The object of my invention is to provide in one foldable device a rest for the notebook in convenient position to be read by the typist, and depositories for paper.
In the drawing:-
Fig. l is a perspective view of my device.
Fig. 2 is a partial rear view thereof.
Fig. 3 is an edge view with parts folded together.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the notebook support.
In general my invention consists of a rack i5 adapted to hold letter paper, and a notebook support adapted to be secured to said rack in convenient positions.
The rack consists of a back 9, two sides IIJ, and a bottom II, together forming a depository of just sufcient size to contain and stack letter paper.
The notebook support is a piece of thin rectangular material, such as metal or plywood, I2, secured at the edge of the rack by means of a bent spindle I3 pivotally secured upon the back of the piece I2 and adapted to engage with a clip It upon the back of the rack 9. Said clip may be pivotally secured to said rack for the purpose of folding under the same for convenience in 3U packing my device. There is a collar I5 secured upon the spindle I3 to engage the clip I 4 and thus support the notebook support at its upper end. At the lower end of the notebook support is secured thereto a bifurcated clip adapted to receive between the legs thereof one edge of the rack, one of the legs of said clip I6 entering an orifice I'I in the bottom of the rack. There is an orice Il and a clip I4 upon each side of the rack, and since said spindle I3 and said clip IS are centrally disposed upon the notebook support I2 said notebook support may be mounted either at the left of the rack-as shown or at the right thereof, as desired.
A supporting leg for said rack, preferably of wire, is pivotally mounted upon the back of the rack at I8, and is bent to form two substantially parallel legs I9 terminating in a transversely bent portion 2) to form a foot for the device. Upon said foot 20, I mount two rubber tube pieces 2I as a protector to the desk upon which my device may be placed.
(Cl. 1Z0-28) Pivotally mounted upon the leg member 20 in termediate said rubber members 2| is a shelf 22, that edge thereof adjacent the rack being formed into two downwardly projecting lugs 23 adapted to engage with backwardly extending hooks 24 formed upon the rack. Said shelf is for the pure pose of receiving the sheets or copy sheets that the typist will need. Intermediate its two ends the members I9 of the leg are bent or looped towards each other as at 25, for the purpose of engaging a bent portion 26 of a wire support for a shelf 2l that is pivotally attached to the said support intermediate the bent portions thereof. The ends of said support are pivotally secured upon the rack at 23. Said shelf 2l is for the purpose of receiving a supply of envelopes.
It is now obvious that my device will support the notebook in convenient position to be read, and also will contain sheets in the rack in convenient position.
The folded position of the various parts is i1- lustrated in Fig. 3. When thus folded the notebook support I2 may be disengaged from the rack and placed therein. The two clips Iii are turned parallel to the sides of the rack, and thus easily packed for shipping.
Having described and illustrated my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A paper rack with edges turned up to properly stack the paper contained therein; a leg foldable against said rack to support the same; and a clip integral with each side of said rack for mounting a notebook support upon either edge of said rack.
2. A paper rack with upturned edges the bot tom edge having orices therein and a clip attached to each side of the rack in combination with a notebook support; and a spindle pivotally mounted upon said notebook support and adapted to engage with the clip secured upon said rack; and a bifurcated clip upon said notebook support adapted to receive an upturned edge of said rack between the legs thereof, one of said legs engaging an orifice in the bottom of said rack; said spindle and said bifurcated clip being centrally disposed upon said notebook support for the purpose of mounting the same upon either side of said rack; and means for supporting said rack.
CLIFFORD A. BOURNE.
