CAROLINE LUCY HUNTER, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINATION-CAB IIINET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAROLINE L. HUNTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State ofC-alifornia, have invented a new and useful Combination-Cabinet; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a combination cabinet and has for its object to provide a device of this character which is especially adapted for the use and convenience of those engaged in light housekeeping.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a device of this character having drawers arranged on one side, and openings in each end of the closure for said openings.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a compartment in the rear of the drawers adapted to receive a foldable table.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a hinged top containing a panel adapted to be reversed and used as an ironing board.
\Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the upper portion showing the top open. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a. portion of the top showing the ironing board in operative position. Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view. Fig. 7 is an end view.
Referring to the drawings 1 and 2 designate the front and rear walls respectively of my cabinet which may be made of any suitable material and can be of various sizes and proportions. The wall 2 extends upwardly above the top of the casing as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
Arranged in the front of the cabinet are drawers 3, 4 and 5. These drawers do not extend the length of the cabinet as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, but on each end of the cabinet is arranged a plurality of Specification of Letters Patent.

compartments 6 which extend inwardly from the ends. These end compartments are inclosed by L-shaped coverings or inclosures 7 and 8. The closure or member 8 is provided with a bifurcation 9 which receives a projection 10 from the L-shaped member 7. Then these members are inserted, lugs 11 are brought into registration with lugs 12 of the tongue and av pivoted locking member 13 which is mounted on the rear side of the cabinet engagessaid lugs thus preventing the accidental displacement of the members 7 and 8. The upwardly extending portion of the rear casing is provided with a hinged top let at each end of which is a recess 15 adapted to receive the Lshaped members 7 and 8.
Each end of the cabinet is provided with a plurality of shelves 16. These shelves are removable and when it is desired to enlarge the capacity of the end compartment 6 one or more of these shelves is removed. Each of the shelves 16 is provided with rectangular recesses 17 in two of the corners thereof, which receive the strips 18 arranged in the corners of the compartments 6. The strips 18 also act as strengthening means for the cabinet, as well as stops for the shelves. Each end of the cabinet is pro vided with a pair of vertically disposed re silient strips 19 which engage the outer edges of the shelves for holding the same in position. These shelves may be reversed if desired. When it is desired to remove the shelves 16 the strips 19 are pressed in opposite directions which render the shelves free to be removed.
The top 14 is provided with an ironing board 20 which is screwed to an inward projection 21, which projection is rigidly connected with the interior of said top. \Vhen it is desired to use said board the screw 22 which pierces the ironing board 20 and the projection -21 is loosened. when the said board can be partially rotated so that it will extend outwardly from the cabinet thus permitting ready access to and use of the same as an ironing board. The screw 22 is adapted to hold the ironing board in operative position and also to hold it firmly in its place when it serves as a portion of the top.
\Vhat I claim is:-
1. A cabinet of the class described comprising, a series of com ntrtnlents arranged in each end thereof. a series of drawers arranged between said end compartments, removable L-shaped members forming closures for said end compartments, one of said L-shaped members having an opening in the horizontal portion thereof, said opening being adapted to receive a projection from the horizontal portion of the opposite closure, a lever extending across said projection for locking said L-shaped members against displacement, and means carried by said horizontal portions for engaging said lever.
2. A cabinet of the class described having side and end compartments, said end compartments being provided with removable shelves, vertically disposed resilient strips mounted on each side of the end compartments, said strips being adapted to engage the outer edges of the shelves for locking the same in position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
CAROLINE LUCY HUNTER.
