CONFECTIONERY-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 27, 1912.
Application filed July 19, 1909. Serial No. 508,321.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known t-hat I, SAMUEL E. MORTEN soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Chicago, county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Confectionery- Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in confectionery boxes. I
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved box for confectionery and the like which may, when emptied of its original contents, be used for and is desirable for use for various other purposes, or certain parts of the box may be used for decorative purposes, or in the manufacture of pillow covers, badges, or emblems or the like.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The structure described constitutes one effective embodiment of my invention. Other embodiments would be readily devised by those skilled in the art.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure constituting an effective and preferred embodiment of the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure l is a perspective of a structure embodying the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central sect-ion thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse central section thereof. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified structure. Fig. 5 is a detail plan of one of the corners of the covering for the outer cover illustrating that the cover is formed of a single flat uncut blank.
In the drawing, similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, the box 1 and its cover 2 are of the usual form of confectionery box or package and may be tied or sealed, as desired, the ties or seals not being here illustrated. I provide for this box and its cover an outer cover 3 having a covering 4 of felt or similar material, this covering 4 is preferably formed of a single piece of felt, a detail of the rectangular' blank 5 of which is illustrated in Fig. This blank is preferably uncut,-that is, its corners are folded without cutting, so that, if desired,
ture illustrated, the word Sorority, the
letters being out in the covering 4 and a background 6 of a suitably colored felt arranged beneath the covering, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. This back ground is of a suitably distinguishing color from the covering 4, the covering and the indicia back ground preferably embodying the colors of the particular sorority or other society with the indicia of which the box is provided.
The box is preferably provided with longitudinally transversely arranged bands 7 and 8, respectively, the bands being also preferably of felt material and of a color which carries out the society color scheme. These bands are preferably ornamented with suitable indicia, as appears in Fig. 1. They are secured by stitching 9 at the edges of the covering 4. The indicia background 6 is preferably ofsuch a size that its edges lie under or adjacent to the edges of the bands so that the box has a slightly upholstered appearance.
After the box has served its purpose as a receptacle for the confectionery, it is desirable for use for other purposes, it being an ornamental box or package, or, as stated, it may be used for badges or the like, it being only necessary to remove the threads 10 by which the covering is secured in its folded form and disengageits edges from the outer cover 3, which may be easily done, the covering then being in itsfiat or blank form with the bands attached thereto.
In the modified structure shown in Fig. 4, the indicia is in the form of letters 11 sewed upon the covering 4. The bands are formed of tWo parts and the parts are secured together by a knot.
My improved box is simple and economical in structure, and, at the same time, is very attractive in appearance and possesses the advantage stated of providing a desirable and ornamental receptacle for other articles When its original contents are used, or the outer covering may be used for various other purposes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent, is:
l. The combination with an inner box and cover therefor, of an outer cover adapted to fit said inner cover; a covering of felt for said outer cover having indicia. cut therein, said covering being extended to the edges of said outer cover and being secured thereto an indicia back ground of felt arranged Within said covering; and ties arranged transversely and longitudinally across said outer covering, said ties being secured at their ends to the edges of said covering and having indicia thereon.
2. The combination With an inner box and cover therefor, of an outer cover adapted to fit said inner cover; a covering of felt for said outer cover having indicia cut therein, said covering being extended to the edges of said outer cover and being secured thereto; and indicia back ground of felt arranged Within said covering.
3. The combination with an inner box and cover therefor, of an outer cover adapted to fit said inner cover; a covering of felt for said outer cover, said covering being extended to the edges of said outer cover and being secured thereto; and ties arranged transversely and longitudinally across said ou-ter covering, said ties being secured at their ends to the edges of said covering and having indicia thereon.
4. The combination with a box and its cover, of an outer cover adapted to fit the inner cover; a covering of felt for said outer cover provided with suitable indicia, said covering being extended to the edges of said Aouter cover and removably secured thereto;
and tie bands secured at the edges of said covering and extended across the same.
5. The combination With an inner box and cover therefor, of an outer cover adapted to fitsaid inner cover; an inclosing covering for said outer cover, said covering being extended to the edges of said outer cover and being removably secured thereto; and bands arranged transversely and longitudinally across said outer covering, said bands being secured at their ends to the edges of said covering to permit the removal of said inclosing covering Without disengaging the bands therefrom.
6. The combination with an inner box and cover therefor, of an outer cover adapted to lit said inner cover; an inclosing covering for said outer cover, said covering being extended to the edges of said outer cover and beA ing removably secured thereto; and bands arranged across said outer covering, said bands being secured'at their ends to the edges of said covering to permit the removal of said inclosing covering without disengaging the bands therefrom.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of tivo Witnesses.
