To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J AMES B. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cell-Case and Blank Therefor, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to cell cases of the collapsible type and has reference, in the embodiment thereof shown in the accompanying drawings, to cell cases adapted to use as receptacles for bottles or like articles.

The object of my present invention is "to provide a collapsible receptacle of the character'described which may be economically formed from'a single one piece blank.

With this object in view my invention comprises the features set forth in the following specification, reference being ,made to the accompanying drawings in which,.

Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank. Fig. '2 is a view of a partially folded up blank as seen from the open bottom end of' the carton or cell case. Fig. 3 is a side view of the case with the upper end flaps opened outwardly and with the bottom members secured together, the case being partially collapsed to substantially the same extent shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a plan View 'of the completely formed case in its colla sed condition. Fig. 5 is a top end view 0 the case as it appears when in use and closed, while Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view of the cell case .taken along the line w-y of Fig. 7 and Fig. 7 shows a longitudinal sectional view of the case taken along the line re -y of Fig. 5.

Similar parts are designated by similar reference characters throughout the several figures of the drawings.

- Referring to the drawings-Fig. 1 shows in plan view a blank from which there may be formed up acell case in accordance with my invention, the general contour of which is substantially such as seen in Fig. 1 except that the contour will naturally be modified to meet the different forms and proportions in which the completed cell case may be made. This blank is scored along the lines 1, 2, a, 4, 5, 6, 7, s, ,9, 10, 11,12, 13,11, and 16 and has slots 0 cut therein to receive the locking members at. The blank comrises', then, two main side members P and flexibly connected by a. side member a along the some lines 10 and 12 and this member a is foldable along the score line 11' extending longitudinally through the center thereof. A similar side member a is seen on the left hand sideof the member V flexibly connected thereto along the score 6o line 9 and foldable along the longitudinally centrally disposed score line 8. This side member a is flexibly connected to the partition forming and supporting members 0, d,

sults in a box or carton of the character clearly shown in Fig. 4 in its collapsed condition,-such a carton maybe opened by forcing the side members V and'P apart for the insertion in the spaces, that is, in the three cells in the formed up box, of bottles I. or

any suitable commodity after which the flaps b and b are bent downwardly over the open ends of the two outermost cells and thereafterthe flaps o and p are folded down with the locking members 7% carried by the flap p inserted through the slots 0 therefor in the member 1) asclearly indicated in top View in Fig. 5.

The relations of the partitions forming 9 and supporting strips are clearly seen in sectional view 1n Fig. 6 and the relations of the side and top and bottom end members in the opened case are clearly indicated in Fig. 7

It is believed from the foregoing description of the blank and the method of forming up my cell case therefrom that the method of using such a cell case is sufiiciently clear to call for no further descrip- 1 tion herein.

What I claim is:

1. A box for the purpose described formed from a blank comprising the following members arranged sem'ate'm in straightened out relation, ,viz.,'a first side member carrying at its 0 posite free edges end flaps for the box; flexlbly secured to the first side member a collapsible side member and flexibly connected thereto in turn a side member corresponding-to and adapted to lie opposite to the first named side member and opposite to the first named'collapsible side member and flexibly connected therewith an attaching member adapted to be secured to and lie parallel with the first named side member and flexibly connected therewith'a collapsible partition member and flexibly the 'first named attaching connected therewith in turn a second attaching member similar and corresponding to member and adapted to lie parallel with and be connected to the third named side member.

A .box for the purpose described formed from a blank comprising the following members arranged serz'atz'm in straightened out relation, viz.,-a first side member carrying at its opposite free edges end flaps for the box; flexibly secured to the first side member a collapsible side member and flexibly connected thereto in turn a side member corresponding to and adapted to lie opposite to the first named side member and having on opposite ends end flaps cooperating with'the end flaps on the first named side member; flexibly connected to such last named side member a second 001- la sible side member corresponding to and a apted to lie opposite to the first named collapsible side member and flexibly connected therewith an attaching member adapted to be secured to and lie parallel with the first named side member and flexibly connected therewith a collapsible partition member and flexibly connected therewith in turn a second attaching member similar and corresponding to the first named attaching member and adapted to lie parallel with and be connected to the third named side member; flexibly connected to such last named attaching member a second collapsible partition member and flexibly connected therewith 'in turn a third attaching 'member adapted to lie parallel with and be connected with the first named side member.. 1
