To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, AXEL ANSHELM, CARLSON, a citizen of the United States, re-
siding at Lindsborg, in the county of Mc- Pherson and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This inventiony relates to an improved safety razor.
Theiobject of the invention is to provide a'simply` constructed razor of this class having a plurality of blades arranged position ready for successive use and having adjustable means for holding one blade at a time in operative position.
With this' and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and'particularlyjpointed out in the appended claims.

In the embodiment illustrated, a casing 1 is shown preferably made in the form of a mutilated cylinder with one end `permanently closed and provided with an offset central chamber 2 for a purpose to be described. A The other end of this casing is provided with a hinged closure 3 having suitable means for holding it in detachable engagement 'with the cylinder, the connecting means here shown .being in the form of tion, as shown clearly in Fig. 4. A spring 7a is arranged to hold the 'guard 7 yieldablyand closely engaged with the blade when in operative position. The hinging of the guard allows it to move outwardly to permit the successive blades to be brought into operative position when desired. A stop 3*? 1s preferably -arranged on the mutilated edge of the closure 3 to limit the inward movement of the guard, as shown clearly in Figs. 1, 4 and 5. A solid-cylindrical member 8 is revolubly -mounted in the casing 'and the axle or shaft 9 thereof is mounted at one end in a suitable bearing formed in the chamber 2, as shown clearly in Fig. 3.
A ratchet wheel 10 is Xed to the shaftv 9 and housed within the chamber 2, and is provided with any desired number of teeth 11, said teeth corresponding in number to the number of blades carried by the member 8, six being here shown. A spring pressed pawl 12 is mounted in the chamber 2 and is adapted to engage the teeth of the wheel 10 to hold it against turning in one direction, and which holds the blade carrying member 8 in adjusted position. This blade carrying member 8 is provided in its periphery with a plurality of tangentially arranged sockets as 13, the walls of which converge toward their outer end and are designed to prevent the blades from dropping out of the sockets. These sockets 13 extend longitudinally of the member 8 from end to end thereof. A plurality of blade's as 14, which are wedge-shaped in cross section to correspond with the shape of the sockets 13, are inserted endwise in said sockets with their cutting edges projecting some distance beyond the periphery of the member 8, as shownA clearly in Fig. 4. A spring 15, secured to the rear edge of these blades, is preferably constructed in the form shown in Fig. 6, with the ends thereof arranged to bear yagainst the rear wall of its respective socket for holding theV blade yieldably in position in said socket with its cutting edge normally projecting in operative position. t
The teeth of the ratchet wheel 10 are so ing to the size of the' member 8, six being preferably used, and when one blade becomes dull the member is'revolved a distance equal to one tooth on the ratchet 10, which Will bring the next blade into the position shown at A in Fig. 4, and cause vthe dull blade to pass into the casing from which it 'may be removed at any time by opening the closure 3 and slipping said blade longitudinally outv of its socket, but it is not. soremoved ordinarily until all of the blades arel ready to be sharpened, sothat one operation will be sufficient. From the foregoing description 'taken in connection With the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention Will be readily understood With with an opening in one'side With a blade guard arranged adjacent said opening, a member revolubly mounted in said casing, a plurality of' tangentially disposed blades mounted infsaid member, and means for holding-"oneof said blades always in operative positionrelativer to said guard.

3. A safety razor comprising a casing having an opening therein, a member revo lubly mounted in said casing, a plurality of tangentially disposed removable blades yieldingly mounted in said member and a blade guard arranged adjacent said opening of the casing with Which the blades engage.
4. A safety razor comprising a casing having an opening in one side Wall thereof and provided with a blade guard', a solid cylindrical member revolubly mounted in said casing and having a plurality of tangentially disposed sockets in its periphery with the Walls thereof converging toward theirouterends, and blades mounted in said socketsfwith their cutting edges projecting beyond the outer ends of said sockets, said blades being- Wedge-shaped in cross section, andsf'springs arranged in said sockets in position to bear on the rear edges of said blades'to hold them yieldably in operative position.

A safety razor comprising a casing having an opening in one Wall thereof provided with a hinged blade guard, a blade carrying member arranged in said casing, a blade mounted in said member With its cutting edge projecting through the opening in said casing, a blade guard hingedly connected at one edge to one edge of said casing opening and having its free edge bent inwardly and engaged with one face of said blade, and means for yieldably holding said guard in engagement with said blade.
