Description

FRANK CUPELLI, v0F POINT MABION, PENNSYLVANIA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
SAFETY-imma.
' Patented Nov. 23, 1909.
Application filed May 2 5, 1909. Serial N o. 498,141.
To all whom 'it may'concer-n:
Be it -known that l, FRANK CUPELLI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Point Marion, in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to razors, and more particularly to those of the safety type, and has for an object to provide 'a safety razor which will be constructed particularlyr` on the lines of the well known form of razor, but which will bel provided with a member hingedly connected to the usual form of protecting receptacle, and which will be provided with a plurality of cutting blades arranged at the sides of the guard member having a series of projecting teethv or fingers which protrude slightly beyond the longitudinal cutting edgesor the blades.
A still further object of my inventionis to provide a razor whereby the blades may be conveniently removed at the will of the operator to permit the insertion of new bladesupon the removal of worn ones.
Other objects and advantages' will be apparent as the nature of the invention is better set forth, and it will be understood that changes within the scopev of the claim may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing, forming a portion'of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views z-F igure l is a side elevation-of `a portion of my improved razor.v Fig. 2 is a detail perspectivev view'of the guard member. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 3 8 of Fi 1. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view o a portion of 'the razor. A
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, there is shown a razor comprising a member 1 provided with a reduced portion 2 pivotally connected at 3 between the arms 4 of a receptacle or protecting casing 5 which may be of the usual form employed in razors having the customary ivoted blades.
The member 1 is provided wlth a rectangular body vportion 6 provided with inclinedA end walls 7. The member l is provided with a longitudinally extending` bead or rib 8 which is reduced in diameter to that of the member 1 and forms at each side of the said bead or rib a longitudinally extending shoulder 9. A guard member 10 is provided and has inclined end walls 11 arranged to frictionally engage the end walls 7 of the member 1 and has its lower edge seated upon the bead or rib 8.
Blades 12 are arranged'at the sides of the guardV 10 and have their lower edges seated against the shoulders 9 and their end walls seated against the end walls 7 outwardly of the` end walls of the said guard. The blades 12 are each provided with a beveled longitudinal edge-13 which are dis osed slightly beneath or below the plane o the teeth 14 of the guard. The construction as herein shown is such that when the inclined or beveled walls l1 of the guard are properly engaged with the correspondingly formed walls 7 the said guard w1ll be held a ainst movement in an outward direction. t will also be seen that when the walls 15 of the blades 12 are seated against the walls 7 they will also be held against outward sliding movement. The member 1 is provided at suitably spaced points with pivotally mountgaged with the blades 12 upon their outer faces so as to revent the said blades 'om becoming misp aced.
The razor as herein shown and described- 'is extremely simple 1n construction and 1s capable of being operated as in the mode of operation of the ordinary and well known form of. razor. The construction permits of the removal ofthe guard 10 and the blades 12 so that the latter can be sharpened or replaced bylnew blades and the former sterilp' ized or cleaned.
I claim v A razor comprising a rece tacle having a member pivotally connecte thereto rovded with a cutaway portion arrange to form adjacentto the en ds of the member inclined walls, a guard having inclined walls f2 I 941,231 i against sliding movement in an outward direction, blades at the sides of the guard provided with inclined end walls for engaging the inclined Walls of the member, and blade retaining means carried 'by `the member adapted te en age'the blades and to hold them against t 1e sides of the said guard. 10
In testimon whereof I aix my signature in presence o two Witnesses.
FRANK CUPELLI.
