Description

gaat can.
ENRY R. @.OOLTON, O F IIOUGHTON, MICHIGAN.
'Leners Patent No. 100,728, ma March 15, 1870.
IMPRVEMENT IN' ,SAFETY-ATTACHMENT FOR POCKETS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom. 'it may lcmwfrn.-
Be it known that I, HENRY R. S. OoL'roN, of Houghton, in the county of Houghton, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improve-` ment in Pocket-Book Guards, of which the following -is a full, clear, and exact description,reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification', and of which` Figure 1 is a perspective view of that portion of my improvement which` is'adixed to the pocket;
. etbookswatches, or other valuables, by theft or ac-l cident, and at the same time to allow the watch or y pocket-book to `be `readily removed from orreplaced in the pocket, by means of i a spring hook secured in the pocket, which holds the article securely until released by the wearer. i
In the accompanying draw/ings this hookbis reprev sented as made in one piece, with a plate, A, of convenient size and form, and provided with perforations a,.for receiving. the stitches or .eyelets for attaching it to the garment of the wearer.
At the lower part of this plate an elastic shank, B,
is formed, which projects upward. The free end of this shank isdonbled inward, so that its point bears against the` plate A, and has its end turned slightly inward to facilitate the removal of the article fromthe hook.
The pocket-book is provided with a loop, 0, `for attaching it to the hook, as shown in fig. 2. lhis loop may be of, metal, fastened to the book, or may be of the same material as the book. The pocket-book is secured in the pocket by passing the loop over the free end of the? hook, whence it cannot be removedwthont unfastening it from the hook, or tearing away the pocket. rIhe wearer can easily detach the fastening by pressing on the spring hook, but this cannot be done by any one else without attracting attention.
I am aware that various devices have heretofore been employed to secure a watch or pocket-book in the pocket, and do not, therefore, broadly claim the method of doing this.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of thc plate A, the spring hook y B, and its re-entering tongue b, bearing on the plate, all these parts being constructed as set forth, for the purposes specified.
2. The combination of the plate A, the spring hook B, and its re-enteiing tongue l), with the loop C on the pocket-book, all these parts being constructed as set forth, for joint operation.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my hand.
