This invention relates to electron capture detectors for use in gas chromatographs.
A known electron capture detector is an ionization chamber comprising a housing, two isolated electrodes, one of which (the cathode) is a source of ionizing radiation (p-source), a gas inlet and a gas outlet.
Однако в св зи с наличием в нем радиоактивного источника верхн рабоча температура известного детектора ограничена максимально допустимой температурой «агрева источника , а анализ веществ, агрессивных по отнощению к радиоактивному источнику, невозможен .However, due to the presence of a radioactive source in it, the upper operating temperature of a known detector is limited by the maximum permissible temperature of the source heating, and the analysis of substances that are aggressive with respect to the radioactive source is impossible.
The purpose of the invention is to expand the analytical capabilities of the detector and increase the accuracy of operation at high temperatures.
The goal is achieved by the fact that in the proposed detector the negative electrode (cathode) is made not in the form of a radioactive source, as in the prototype, but in the form of a thermal cathode.
Figure 1 shows schematically the proposed electron capture detector.
The detector consists of a body /, anode 2 and cathode 3, isolated from the body, respectively, by insulators 4 and 5. Cathode 3 is made in the form of a thermal cathode. The housing has a gas inlet 6 for supplying the gas to be analyzed, a gas inlet 7 for supplying purge gas and a gas outlet 8 for discharging gases. The detector works as follows.
If gases (carrier gas and purge gas) that do not have a positive electron affinity enter the detector through the inlets and 7, and a constant voltage is applied to the detector electrodes, the magnitude of the applied voltage and the negative volume charge depending on the electron mobility. Measured in this case
ток есть фоновый начальный ток детектора.the current is the background initial current of the detector.
If an analyte capable of capturing electrons enters the detector in a mixture with a carrier gas, the process of capturing electrons leads to the formation of negative ions in an amount determined by the concentration of the analyte. The mobility of negative ions is significantly lower than the electron mobility; therefore, the process of electron capture leads to an increase in negative volume charge and, therefore, to a decrease in the current between the electrodes. The measured value of the current reduction determines the detector signal corresponding to the concentration of the analyzed
вещества.substances.
