Abstract

The driver can store a static starting gear ratio in the nonvolatile section (6) of the memory (5) of the control unit (4) by a particular program sequence. This ratio is the lowest in which the vehicle can be started from rest. A dynamic starting ratio, the lowest obtainable from a change-down in automatic mode, while the vehicle is moving or the clutch (18) between the engine (1) and gearbox (2) is not disengaged, is associated automatically with a higher ratio determined by an offset added to the programmed static ratio.
