Device pertaining to the braking of a wheel belonging to a rail-bound vehicle having a brake shoe 3 configured as a unit and arranged to be pressed as a unit against a wheel ring 9 whenever braking occurs, in which a torque- transmitting member 10,11 is fitted to or in direct connection with and actuates the entire brake shoe 3 such that it is rotated about at least one substantially horizontally orientated axis so that a wedge-shaped gap is formed between the brake shoe 3 and the wheel ring 9 in the unbraked position. <IMAGE>
