Abstract

A high precision reference frequency usable for synthesizing the local oscillator frequencies of a transmission or re-transmission station especially in a TV grid network is derived from the received signal which may be heavily attenuated and modulated by a video signal and by the synchronization signals by first converting the received signal into an IF signal and eliminating the video signal in a fixed narrow band filter 22 and then the modulation and synchronization components in a first phase locked loop 24 to produce a signal which after frequency division at 25 is used to control via a second phase locked loop a pilot oscillator 18 producing the required output. The generator is adapted to handle signals corresponding to the French or the European-American standards by suitable frequency conversion twice at 9,21. Local oscillators 12, 12a are incorporated in PLLs responsive to an output of oscillator 18. The second phase locked loop is maintained in lock by a signal on line 240 even when input signal Fi fails. The input signal to first loop 24 may be derived instead from a stable reference oscillator via elements 31-33. <IMAGE>
