Abstract

The seal is intended for sealing the leadthrough of a rotatable shaft (1) into the pressurised refiner chamber (3) of a refiner which produces mechanical half stuff from lignocellulose-containing material. To provide an economical seal which is highly resistant to wear, the seal consists of a bush (2) with one or more radial inner flanges which form with radial outer projections (4) of the shaft (1) a labyrinth-like sealing chamber into which there is introduced a fluid which forms, in the chamber zones of the sealing chamber, owing to centrifugal forces sealing rings which permit pressure differences between the chamber zones. <IMAGE>
