Abstract
The compressor generates heat by compression and recovers the energy from the compression pressure in direct sequence and in the same cylinder. At the top of the cylinder is a compression chamber also functioning as a heat-exchanger and regenerator. The exchanger transfers as much heat as possible to the water flowing through it, and the regenerator stores the heat not dissipated, to heat the expanding air. - A piston driven from a crankshaft via a connecting rod works in the cylinder, with a flywheel on the crankshaft and an electric motor coupled to it. The compression chamber is filled with pipe coils and plates forming the heat-exchanger and regenerator respectively. A cylindrical vessel fixed to the compression chamber contains a piston by which the compression pressure is adjusted. The main piston can have a layer of elastic material on the crown to reduce the risk of damage when at top dead centre.
