Abstract
Compounds of the formula aryl CH(CH3)COOMgX, in which aryl denotes 6-methoxy-2-naphthyl, 4-alkylphenyl or 4'-fluoro-4-biphenyl, and X denotes chlorine or bromine, and their etherates, are described. They are prepared by treating a solution of the corresponding arylmagnesium bromide with the solution of a complex of the formula CH3CH(Br)COOMgX in an aprotic solvent containing an ether. The compounds are important intermediates in the synthesis of known 2-arylpropionic acids of therapeutic importance.
