Abstract

The method and apparatus operate by atomising a casting stream (23) formed from the molten metal (5) with the aid of a gas jet, which hits the casting stream (23) at high speed and atomises it into fine droplets (25), which quickly solidify into powder. The molten metal (5) is placed in a ladle (2), which is provided on the bottom with a spigot block (16), in which there is an opening (21a) forming a casting stream. This opening is covered by a cover. The ladle (2) is provided with a cover (6), which is connected to an evacuating device (10), which generates a vacuum required for degassing. The molten metal (5) is stirred during degassing. After degassing, the cover (22) over the opening (21) of the spigot block (16) is removed and the casting stream (23) formed is atomised in a known way in a granulation chamber (1). <IMAGE>
